Emotiva equipmet, how good is it?
I  had an Emotiva XDA dac.  It was the brightest and thinness sounding piece of crap I ever heard.  You get what you pay for.  The worst were the very bright and ugly led’s. It could burn holes in your eyeballs.  Never again, I got connedMy experi...
Emotiva equipmet, how good is it?
As an XPA Emotiva amp owner(until I sold it off) I have to differ with some of the comments. I had the amp paired with a pair of higher end speakers, and it’s weaknesses showed up.  Not very accurate bass, overly bright at higher volumes and this ...
Warmer sounding Solid State
The Hegel 160 was stated in your link as having a somewhat forward sound.  This would be the wrong characteristic for someone looking for a warm sound.
Warmer sounding Solid State
I’ve had a few Parasound Halo pieces, and I don’t concur with the above mentioned “slower attack on the mid-range” characterization.    I haven’t heard anything like that with several different loudspeakers. But everything in the chain has a say in...
Looking for a piece to complement my Parasound Halo A21
I also had an Emotiva  xpa amp and tried out an A21 Parasound.  I ended up getting rid of the Emotiva as with some speakers it’s too harsh or bright sounding with flabby bass, compared with the A21.as for a new 5 or 7 channel amp, how about the Pa...
New Adcom GFA-555 se - Special Edition
I dunno, maybe the 555 was the biggest selling solid state amplifier?  100,000 units is surely some kind of an achievement, don’t you think?  And I repeat that there is no way it would have sold like that for a decade or more if it had mediocre SQ...
New Adcom GFA-555 se - Special Edition
I gotta call bs on this whole post, it’s so non-specific. The only thing we can surmise from the above is that he hates Adcom and he can not type. There is a reason that Adcom sold 100,000 units of their 555 amp, which is the record, apparently.  T...
New Adcom GFA-555 se - Special Edition
Nope, not made in China.  I’ll resurrect this thread as after about 10 months I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the 555SE. It doesn’t get harsh or bright at higher volumes, images beautifully and just sounds effortless.the only downside for ...
Current production Adcom amp. - GFA 6002
Speaking of which, I'm wondering if anyone else has tried the 6002 or one of the new Adcom amps.  I've only tried them with some easy loads like Totem bookshelf speakers and some Pioneer towers.Just wondering what the consensus is?
Recommended Preamp for pairing an Adcom 555II Amp and Theil CS 3.5 speakers
Hey don, I'm from Canada too.  I have bought a great deal by ordering from American dealers and have it shipped to US border towns then go down and pick it up.  I'm guessing that you live too far from the border to make this feasible.Audiogon is a...
Audioquest Rocket series
That's odd.  In the last year I've acquired Rocket 44(biwire), NRG-4 power cables and some Sydney RCA interconnects.  It's the best my system has ever sounded. So I wonder about Dustsailor's results.  He never mentioned his system or speakers, mayb...
New Adcom 👀585 SE. anybody heard this monster
What?  Adcom changed the landscape because their Nelson Pass designed amps were the equal or better than your Nad level gear of the mid 80’s.   For much less.I have been able to contact Adcom when needed and suspect the above poster just didn’t fi...
Morrow Audio re-design announcement: No more Ag coated Cu; Increased numbers of runs.
My M1 cables( traded in a year later) we’re not very impressive in my system.  Simply not keepers, and it was apparent that Morrow had them in the line up as a gateway drug, a cheap entrance into his products.perhaps they do better with tube compo...
Morrow Audio re-design announcement: No more Ag coated Cu; Increased numbers of runs.
I’ve purchased several MA cables over the last few years. The MA 1.1, MA3 and 5, the latter 2 ordered with the Eichmann bullets. I bought 2 pairs of the MA5 with the bullets, and they were not cheap. Now I hear that Morrow has scrapped the silver ...
Audioquest Red River vs. Big Sur interconnects
I've been adding Audioquest cables to my rig, NRG 3 and 4, Sydney RCA interconnects, and the latest is the Mackenzie XLR IC's for pre to amp(which I've yet to install as rig is temporarily packed away).Anyway, a big help for me was a multi cable c...
