RIP Panny Plasmas

Just saw a report on CNBC that Panasonic is planning on exiting the plasma business by March 2014. Can't say I'm overly surprised but still a bummer. Hope the others aren't following suit soon.

Still have an early generation Fujitsu 50" plasma which is far better in every respect than my 3 year old sony XBR and than every LCD I've ever seen. Hopefully, plasma survives.
Panasonic has always made great quality and value television. I have two of the Viera and one superflat CRT. All look/work excellent. I hope they come up with something as good for their next generation.
Liz, the market rush is still, and always will be flat panels. LCD, and LED are flat panels. I have all plasma tv's, except my pj, and prefer them. I guess I just don't understand your "flat panel" comment.
Does anyone know the approximate useful lifespan of a well built plasma TV? I am considering buying one before they become extinct.
I think this is the second time in as many years that they've announced they're getting out of plasma. LCDs are getting much better and OLED manufacturing has too low a yield right now to justify lowering costs so Plasma should still be considered as a viable alternative.

Here's to hoping they'll still be around.

All the best,
Nonoise
