Can a DAC do double duty?

Hi All,

I have Eversolo streamer going to DENAFRIPS Pontus via USB. Then XLR’s from Pontus to my processor.

I have an older Pioneer Elite CD carousel which has coax. Can I go coax from CD player to Pontus, then Pontus to processor via RCA in’s on my processor?

Obviously I would be listening to either/or not at the same time. But is this doable? And if so does it do any harm to Pontus?

Thanks so much in advance!

Best Regards…

I’d think all you need is the one XLR connection from the Pontus to the processor and just switch inputs on the Pontus to toggle between the streamer and CD player.  I’m guessing you’re looking at adding another RCA connection because you’d rather use the processor to toggle?  Might be interesting to try both ways and see if you perceive any sonic differences.

Thank you for the replies! Only 1 XLR cable? My processor is the Krell Foundation. What would be the best way to connect? I need the 2 XLR’s for left and right for the streamer, no? And then the RCA’s left and right from the Pontus to the Krell?

Only 1 XLR cable?

Sorry, my bad.  You are correct and I meant one pair of XLR interconnects.  Both your CD player and streamer should be able to flow through just the XLR interconnects from the Pontus (no RCA interconnects needed), and if the Krell is fully balanced that’s sonically probably the better way to go along with not having to potentially have to buy another pair of RCA interconnects.

Thank you @soix! No actually that's MY bad, I should have known that's what you meant😖. So both devices would then share the same inputs? Wow would have never thought that possible. That would be weird though because I have the XLR named as "Eversolo" and the cd player as "Elite" on the Krell. So I would then just always keep it as "Eversolo" but I'd still be able to play the CD player under the "Eversolo" input, right?

Full disclosure I already have the CD player connected to DENAFRIPS Ares DAC but would like to sell that DAC and declutter my system a bit which is what prompted me to inquire about this,,,,
