Please help me to define diagnosis of the following illness.

Very often especially lately I’ve been diving into one specific music style and going there around a year non-stop without even thinking of playing something else. While I was happy to devour dark ambient for almost a year, my next transition was to hip-hop/rap and there I stayed without listening anything else for quite a bit.

Classical music waves happened at least a couple of times

Right now I’ve finally "upgraded" myself and listening to minimalism of all kinds and deep EDM house/techno which makes it a few styles together that are I'd say pretty close to each other.

I’d probably say that it’s sort of ??MONOAUDISM??; MONOMELOPHOBIA??

Please suggestions. Thanks!

P.S. I had to verify this post with traffic lights in order to prove that I’m not robot

@czarivey  LOL!  I jest of course.

I go through a similar phase. It's just getting your fill of a particular song, album, piece of music, genre...then when you're satisfied you switch.

Unless an individual's collection is of one genre...

For God's sake, I don't think that it is an illness. Your listening habits and preferences are guided by you instincts and your drive. Your "mono" whatever is taking you where you want to go. Follow the journey. Don't second guess it. I initially thought your post was kind of crazy. But, in hindsight, it's not crazy at all. It's your musical journey. Enjoy the ride and embrace!!

I am always in awe of your words and wisdom. Thanks for your such soul driven perceptions. One comment I wanted to totally agree with you on:  "but some emotions conveyed in some music by some musicians, and I look for ecstasy because ecstasy lasts, fun do not last"

In the early 70's, BIRDS OF FIRE, the title cut from John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra changed my life. It was the birth of early jazz fusion that hit my soul and heart like a drug. It was something that drew me out of body. I was around 14 years old then. I am 65 now, and when I hear that song I still feel the power, the spirit and the ecstasy that I felt so many years ago. Such a permeation into to the fabric of my life that will only die when I do.

I sometimes go through phases, right now I am not listening to any Classical or Jazz, although I like those genre's just fine and will hop on those bandwagons for months at a time.

The only genre that seems to only last a few albums is Death Metal, although when I get in the mood, the house rocks.

I think what you are experiencing is normal behavior and probably does not need any medication - unless you want to....
