Lumin T2 vs. Oppo 205

I’m thinking of swapping out my Lumin T2 for an oppo 205. I like the T2 streaming capability and sound quality. However, it does not play physical media like CD/SACD and worst of all, it doesn’t have any input to access its DAC. I have an oppo 203 but I mainly bought it to use it as a bluray player and didn’t care for its audio quality.
The oppo 205 looks like it has everything I need at least on paper. A dual 9038pro chip. T2 is dual 9028pro. My only concern is the streaming part on the oppo 205. I use Tidal and Tidal connect. To this date, I haven’t figured out how to get it to work with my oppo 203.
Anyone with bought or Oppo205 can comment on its streaming capability? And sound quality compare to Lumin T2?

I own a bdp105-d and used to use it as a player but the sound reproduction of the unit wore me out- to bright/edgy and led to listening fatigue.
My experience with the 203 was the same (as you’ve mentioned) and as Oppo stayed with the same chipsets I wouldn’t have any faith in the 205 sounding much better.

I’m not sure if you’ll have success with streaming Tidal either as the app is no longer updated/supported by Oppo. Maybe someone else can chime in as to the status of Tidal on the Oppo.

Have you considered purchasing an all in one player/streamer/dac unit. There have been many threads/posts regarding those products. Oppo’s are still popular with the AV crowd- I would imagine you could trade your 203 and T2 towards a newer product that’s more in line with your present goals.

@thisisme ,

You can use MConnect app on Android or Apple devices to cast Tidal to the 205. I have done that before. Tidal Connect will not work.

If the mConnect works anything like it did with my Oppo105(I couldn’t get it to work with 203), I would pass on the oppo205. I sold my 105D for the Lumin T2.
It’s a shame that Oppo left the hifi business. They had great hardwares even in today’s standard

I think my best option now is to keep the Oppo 203 for my HT usage and get a Luxman D-10X. Now I need to research on the DAC used in the D-10X.

In my system, when I had Tidal, I used MConnect to stream music directly from the iPad or Android phone to the 205. You need to make sure that the devices are running on the same network. I have the paid version - MconnectHD.
