Marantz SACD 30n USB (not USB-DAC) input

I have been trying to use a USB Stick (Flash Drive) or USB external portable hard drive with SACD 30n, but I cannot get it to play the files. I went through the trouble shooting tips in the manual. I'm just wondering if anyone else has encountered and resolved this issue.

I don't have the 30n but I can try to help. Do you get an error message when trying to play back files?
