your opinion on buying an older Simaudio i-5 integrated

I’m a young audiophile and I have the opportunity to purchase an older Simaudio i-5 integrated amplifier from the early 2000’s from a friend. I’m curious what folks experiences are with an older integrated solid state amplifier from that era. Obviously I’m concerned about value and the longevity of the product. I know Simaudio is a respectable brand which makes me feel more comfortable. He’s the original owner and I believe he would have treated the amplifier well.
I currently have a class D amplifier from red dragon audio that I’m happy with but I’m open to trying something new that perhaps gives me an opportunity to own a fine product at a very reasonable price. I’ve even heard of the i-5 being used as a preamp, I believe it is dual mono. It would be driving a pair of kef LS-50s.
Appreciate any input or personal experience!

IMO that amp is a WONDERFUL sounding amp but shouldn't cost more than about $500-600.00...
Yes it is Dual Mono but only after the primary Power Supply winding(1 transformer)& will drive the LS50's just fine & sound great...
The I-5 is a wonderful amp. I had both an I-5 and an I-5 LE for years and enjoyed them as much as any piece of gear I've owned. The sonics and the build quality are superb. It's worth owning one just to be able to feel that silky-smooth volume knob when you rotate it. Great company, too.
An update - I got a great price for the original production run with the old Celeste badge. The unit was sent to the factory for service and upgrades in 2003. I’m currently listening with another pair of speakers where I’m quarantining that are from the same era. I have to say I’m beyond impressed. The mids and highs are silky smooth and sweet - the piece is a truly enjoyable listen. Don’t count out older gear, I think I may have hit the jackpot!
