Wilson Audio Watt Puppy 5.1 diffraction pads

Do the diffraction pads affect the sound?  I came into a set with where the diffraction pads were taken off, leaving a thick residue on the cabinet where the pads used to be.  Replacing them and the grills will end up being about $813.

I saw somewhere to use GooGone to remove the old sticky tape residue.  Sounds a little too simple but does anyone have any experience with this?

Any way to find this cheaper?

I think it's meaningful.  I've not experimented with the Wilsons per se but I have with Focal inverted dome tweeters, and using felt around other tweeters.

In every case I perceived a smoother, mellower response.

My suggestion is to clean off the speakers with Goo Gone (it's great) and then get the thickest PSA backed felt you can.  Get a craft hole punch the right size for the tweet.  Include the tweeter surround as well (any rubber or flexible part that is attached to the moving dome.

Best,
