Moderately expensive cables are very inexpensive if you buy and sell used, especially with brands that do not change models very often. Nothing much to debate, we each decide what is worth the cost. But this needs to include resale. |
The lower level Transparent stuff is quite good too. |
I set a maximum amount to spend on cables, but am always happy to spend less...I would never say you need to spend x to get good sound...but I also find the best sound rarely comes cheaply... |
I'm sure they did, great speakers...did you have a chance to compare cables on them? |
my question wasn't meant to be argumentative. I have no way of knowing manufacturing costs. How about, what are some cables you like and feel are a good value and would recommend to friends? |
as a point of reference maplegrove, what are some cables you believe to be overpriced and shilled? |
|
wires might not appreciate in value, but if you buy used, usually you can use them few years and sell them for what you paid...so wires are often the best deal in audio... |
though expensive was never defined in this thread... |
I think your first point sums it up maple. We each determine what sounds best to us, and then decide what price we are willing to pay. Did a Stradivarius cost more to make? Can we prove it sounds better? Does it sound better? Tangential, I know... |
|
I agree that auto performance is easier to measure than audio performance... |
does Porsche make cables? |
I love my old mechanical watches that are not nearly as accurate as my Seiko... |
thanks for the link Al, those are some great looking watches... |
|
|
and again, if you buy used, especially cables, you can often sell in a few years for no/little loss... |
I don't know that anyone has a Need to buy expensive cables or other products, but when an expensive one sounds great, maybe you just have to if you can...I look at it as giving myself a loan, knowing I will get most/all of my money back when I sell in a few years... |
I had the same experience with DALI as nonoise |
I do not believe people feel the need to buy expensive cable, but if it sounds better and they can afford it, they buy it...not because of ads or salespeople but because they like the way it sounds... |
I have found very few speaker or electronics manufacturers who will recommend any particular cable, brand or model - probably cannot afford to offend any of their dealers that do not carry that brand. And it certainly would make sales tougher if customers were told they also had to buy expensive cables. Though most manufacturers seem to use expensive cables to demonstrate their gear at shows. |
the good news is that it is free or cheap to audition cables in your own system and decide for yourself... |
