I have been listening to Korngold:s wonderful Symphony in F Sharp with Rudolph Kempe. This is often the recommended version of this symphony to listen to, but it’s the only version I have so I can’t comment on its placement per the critics. What I can say is I’ve never heard so many colors as I hear in his music and this Symphony is bursting with colorful music. It is one of those that repeated listening brings welcome familiarity and the more I listen, the more I like it.
Whats playing on your system today?
I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....
Then I pulled out "Gamma".

I listened to Michael Fremer’s YouTube recorded visit to the Audiophile Foundation where he recommended an LP he was involved in producing. Its title is Rufus Reid and Caelin Cardello, just a piano and an upright double bass player. The theme is New Directions in Jazz Piano. The two have never played together but found themselves making music together informally at the Klavierhaus, a midtown NYC piano restoration specialist retailer where it soon became obvious they were making magic. i am into classical music and opera with jazz hardly at all, but I can readily recognize that this recording is special. Check availability at Acoustic Sounds.

I am listening to the most marvelous music, I really don’t want it to stop. Ever! I’ve just discovered it. The artist is Bart van Oort and he plays the fortepiano. It is what pianos were in Chopin’s day and they don’t necessarily sound completely familiar, but van Oort is a magician the way he makes these pianos sing. I am listening to one of his singles called “French Nocturnes. I’d like to upload a photo here from my iPad Photo Library but apparently that’s not possible. :( The first track is beyond beautiful. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/PSgg9bZex-E?si=qi6lnCqRzy5f8_6Q The other one of van Oort’s recordings that I’ve been playing is also wonderful! It is a multi disc album “Chopin and his Contemporaries” and it is equally beautiful.
