Why hasnt a turntable manufacturer produced a table with automatic tonearm return/shutoff?
I took one look at the Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4004 in 1978 and knew I had to own it.  I loved the appearance and I loved the tangential tracking tonearm.   But through all the years I owned it I was subtly reminded that it wasn’t an audiophile...
just wanted to share my fix for making my speakers cat and grand kid proof!
I feel the same way.  My cats and my gear do coexist with a little help from me.  I’ve rolled down the socks on my Quads.  Problem solved!
just wanted to share my fix for making my speakers cat and grand kid proof!
Eight years ago I adopted two kittens, a brother and sister about 12 weeks old.  They were the most active kittens I ever had by far and ran roughshod over everything, knocking over lamps, vases, etc,and most destructively running up and down the ...
the gateway product that turned you into an audiophile
I started out in 1956 at age 17 with a Webcor Portable record player, graduated to a console with a radio and turntable under the lid.  Finally, in 1978 my transformative product was a Pioneer SX-1050!  Which I still own though it is rarely called...
Have you reached your end point with this addictive hobby?
I’m done.  Really!  Mainly because I’m 86 years old and my ears, while still fine without hearing aids, realistically cannot appreciate music details the way 20 year old ears can.  But also because I splurged a lot to make my system complete in 20...
Question for Atma-sphere, will expensive power cables improve your amplifiers?
I finally bit the bullet and bought the long delayed power cords for my good stereo system. I have long believed that power cables make a difference as I’ve heard the difference, but deciding on which ones to buy is not so easy. I’ve been delaying...
Best $10-15K bookshelf speaker?
An audiophile acquaintance who often writes reviews on audio products reviewed some Danish speakers and immediately dumped his expensive Harbeth speakers in favor of the speakers he was reviewing. He especially liked their very musical sound and i...
AB testing of power regenerators?? Ever do it?
I have two Triode Isolation Transformers.  I use one for my analog components, the other for my digital components. IMy Trifield EMI Meter measured EMI over 700 mVp.p on every circuit in my house.    Measuring power out at each Triode Isolation ...
HOW DID YOU END UP WITH YOUR DREAM SYSTEM?
I absolutely love my dream system which took 68 years to come to the present state of “almost done”. All that is missing now are upgraded power cables. In 2022 at the age of 84 and assisted by a small inheritance i decided i was going to put toget...
Why Do ~You~ Still Play CDs?
I play CDs all the time, in a way. It just so happens I rip and then I stream my CDs. I was introduced to streaming three years ago and took up Roon about two years ago. I have no interest whatsoever in playing a CD physically if can help it. The...
Can you recommend Jazz for some one that doesn't like Jazz?
I am exactly like you.  I’ve tried for decades to like jazz.  It just doesn’t grab me much at all.  However, I have one recording I could gladly listen to again and again.  It’s the only jazz record I can say that about and I have a small collecti...
The end of physical media is neigh
I read the starting post on here with real dismay. I’ll never forget the day that Oppo announced it was ceasing production of its players. Luckily I signed up in time to win the right to buy my Oppo UDP-205 (whew!) I retain all the LPs I ever bou...
Looking to move to a Tube Integrated setup
As an alternative integrated tube amplifier, consider one of the Audiomats.  They start with Aloha, Arpege, Aria, Adagio, Opera, Solfège.  Here’s a link to their webpage http://www.audiomat.fr/Amplificateurs~T-1-0-1 The North American rep is loc...
Whats playing on your system today?
I am listening to the most marvelous music, I really don’t want it to stop. Ever! I’ve just discovered it. The artist is Bart van Oort and he plays the fortepiano. It is what pianos were in Chopin’s day and they don’t necessarily sound completely...
Integrated Amplifier Recommendations Needed
If you can find an Audiomat of any kind I would grab it.  I have owned an Audiomat Arpege integrated tube amplifier for more than 25 years and an Audiomat Prelude Reference MKII for over 20 years.  They each have had only one Repair and it was to ...
