Cher-Heart Of Stone(cassette 1989) Side 1
Lyle Lovette-Joshua Judges Ruth(cassette 1992) Side 1
Aerosmith-Get A Grip(cassette 1993) Side 2
As I push through my wife’s surviving cassette collection I decided to just play one side to get more cassettes played. Cher clearly had the best SQ and Lyle the best content. Get A Grip is a very solid Aerosmith recording with subpar SQ. The CD is also recorded to loud. Chad Kassem please revive this recording!

Nutty-Great post-Slayer-Seasons in the Abyss is IMO opinion the best Slayer recording. Not one weak song on the album which includes several of the best. Easily a top 25 all time metal recording!!! I will have to take a pass on Jason Aldean.

David Sanborn -Songs From The Night Before Rita Payes-In New York Janis Siegel-The Tender Trap
All 3 recordings are on CD, using a mint vintage Technics SL-P500(1986) with flagship Audio Magic Natural IC's. Creates a very quiet black background that's tightly midrange focused. Not as extended/resolving/spacious as my North Star Design Sapphire but the Technics has it's charms! Will switch to vinyl later tonight.
|

Aerosmith-Get A Grip Cinderella-Still Climbing Arcade-ST Silver Chair-Freak Show Baroness-Blue Record
Have not listened to "Get A Grip" in it’s entirety for more then 10 years! A great classic Aerosmith recording better IMO then Permanent Vacation or Pump, clearly the last great Aerosmith album! "Freak Show" by Silver Chair is an overlooked very dark post grunge masterpiece. |
Matthew Sweet-Girlfriend(CD) is warming up my system for vinyl night. |
Peter Cincotti/ST(CD) A mellow but intense pop/jazz excursion! A great warm up for vinyl night! |
Angra-Secret Garden(Japanese CD VICP-65276 2012)
A Brazilian band very similar to Dream Theater with dynamics/tempo changes/spaciousness and extreme guitar solos. Easily a top 25 metal/prog recording over the last 10 years! |
Insomnium-Shadows Of The Dying Sun(Japanese CD MICP-11159 2014)
A Finnish metal band described as melodic death metal? IMO I hear symphonic metal but I’m not an expert in metal genre labeling. The lyrics are buried in the mix but you do notice a slight growl even with the clean vocals which should be non offensive to classic(only) metal fans. This recording would sound great on large "symphonic" type speakers, the Magnepan 20.7 comes to mind. Overall 4/5. |
