What live recording of Greateful Dead due you recommend that has the best balance of sound quality and content? Glad your back posting here! Might be in the minority but appreciate the classical content, please let us know when a demo level(SQ) classical recording is played.

That is a tough question, as it is so subjective. I stopped purchasing new Dead stuff in 1976, so I may not be the best to ask. I never got into their later Arista releases, nor all the released archived stuff over the last 30-40 years, so have not heard much of what many think are their best, or better. I still went to see them, and Jerry, but just never bought their newer releases.

In general, the Dead’s studio recordings (back in the mid 70’s and prior) were most all better SQ-wise than their live recordings. But, for example, many like Europe 72 over ‘Skull and Roses’, but for me, I prefer the latter, for personally subjective reasons. Both ‘great’ musically, regardless. If we are talking simply better SQ, I would say Steal Your Face released in 1976 is better in that regards than their live releases prior.

Yes, it’s been a tough few months with a death in my family, so have been preoccupied with family matters the last 2-3 months, but appreciate your kind words.

And yes, classical takes up the majority of my listening time today…..so many good ones. That Bernstein LP I posted about below is incredible SQ for a 1962 recording, as example.

These are all new recordings to my collection. Started my "project" of playing(posting) 1 side of all my vinyl recordings 4/19/20? Have added about 500 albums to my collection in the last 4 years pushing past the 2000 mark. My best estimate is I have played close to 85% of my collection. At the 4 year point I will post a more detailed report. Marni Nixon takes the SQ crown in a very diverse night of music.
