Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1
I pulled out Box of Frogs "S/T" for the first time in 30 years. "Harder" reminded me of the Keith Richards  lp  "Talk Is Cheap". Then I looked at the album dates. BOF came out 4 years earlier than "Talk Is Cheap". I'm cleaning 'TIC" right now.

Of coarse Keith has had his signature licks for a great while. Just thought it was an interesting comparison.
Right now.....

Johnny Winter "Second Winter"  Speakers Corner @ 3 0'clock!
so far...

Tool "Aenima"
Colour Haze "All"
Porcupine Tree "Fear of a Blank Planet"

John Lennon "Double Fantasy"
Mark Kozelek "Lost Verses/Live"
Colin Meloy "Sings Live!"
Suzanne Vega "Solitude Standing"
Smog "Knock Knock"

The Guess Who "American Woman" (lp)/Cisco Music
Eagles "The Long Run"
Flying Burrito Bro's "Gilded Palace Of Sin"

The Russian Wilds "Howlin' Rain".

Don't let the description fool you!

Happy Listening!
Courtney Barnett "Sometimes I Sit and Think, Sometimes I Just Sit"
My Jerusalem "Preachers"
The Last Shadow Puppets "The Age of the Understatement"
Freddy Hubbard sounds really good on plain old generic vinyl, but my standby is the Dixie Direct studio's Live at Rosie O'Grady's Good Time Jazz Emporium. On apex enhanced Direct to Disc. Get a low serial number.
"I picked up a copy of Bruce Cockburns album"Stealing Fire"for a dollar, its one of the best sounding records I have!"

and of course any Gentle Giant L.P.

Debussy, Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp - The Carter Chamber Ensemble - Sound Storage Recording Co SSR 2020 (stunningly realistic sound quality!)

Joni Mitchell - Ladies of the Canyon - Rhino reissue

On the turntable now are the Schubert Piano Trios with the Beaux Arts Trio on a very nice Speakers Corner reissue of Philips 835393/4 AY. Very nice performance, well recorded, highly recommended.
Moody Blues - Octave (Original Pressing)

Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels - Live, Sonic Studios, Hampstead, NY 1973 (2015 DOL Pressing)

Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey
Dream with Dean (Analogue Productions vinyl)-- truly an incredible recording.
August and Everything After, Counting Crows (AP vinyl)-- A great album that is even more enjoyable on this vinyl version.
sjtm,

Wasn't "Sunken Condos" a Donald Fagen lp?

I use to shop Insound. They have really changed.... also, IME, they rarely have anything I want in stock.

FWIW, I always check out Oldies.com before I hit BUY.

Cheers!
reubent,

If I may be so bold as to recommend, based on your Shovels & Rope,... check out Jason Isbell's first two solo lps if you haven't already?  Excellent!

Cheers!
Oldie but goodie - Sunken Condos.  If you do not own this, they are on sale at Insound - $17.99.  Depending on your music tastes, they also have a number of reissues at very low prices.  I just bought 20 albums this month - total cost was around $250 with shipping.
At times I feel a need for a reset in terms of how I hear/evaluate lps.

Today, after the above records, I put on Harry James "The King James Version" Sheffield Labs/ D2D.

This will make you sit up and take notice!
Maria Muldaur "Midnight At The Oasis"
Big Star "Try Again"
Grant Lee Phillips "Loaded Gun"

All 45 rpm tonight.

Santana Abraxas - UD1S

Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat

Gladiator - Soundtrack

Ricky Lee Jones - It's like this

Doors - Strange Days

Cowboy Junkies - Trinity Sessions
ruebent,

How are you liking the Black Dub & Glen Hansard?

I appreciate your posts!

Cheers!
Terry Evans "Puttin' It Down", Audioquest lp. Anything involving Joe Harley has always been impressive!
Here's my LP lineup from last evening:

Shovels and Rope - Little Seeds (3 -sided Double LP w/ etching)
Black Dub - Self Titled (3-sided Double LP w/etching)
Glen Hansard - Drive All Night (12" 45 RPM EP)
Emmylou Harris with Spyboy - Live in Germany 2000 (new DMM cutting)
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam (original pressing)

astro58go,

Shovels and Rope live, especially "up-close and personal" in a small venue, is one of the most engaging shows I've seen. The interaction between Michael and Cary Ann is amazing. Go see them live if you get the opportunity.

BTW, they are playing two nights at The Ryman Auditorium in February.
A cave.....

This got me thinking... The Page/Plant "No Quarter" lp from 1994 was recorded in a cave? At least on the MTV video special from that era, they were performing in a cave.

The SQ is amazing! I've heard a 10th anniversary re-issue on another system and I can recommend that one should stay away from that one.

It's playing right now.

Happy Listening!
The Blasters "Live At The Venue  London". It's crazy how great this lp sounds!

reubent,

I have Shovels & Rope "S/T" lp. I love the artist and the music. I saw them on one of the PBS specials a while back, something like, Bluegrass Underground? Live performances in one of our (US) caves. Michael Trent was sweating beads!!!

I played my new copy of Shovels and Rope -Little Seeds. I don't love it yet, although I do love the duo and they are one of the best lives shows I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot!).

However! I do have to say the LP is one of the coolest packages I've ever seen. It's a double LP with 3 sides of music. Side 4 is a really cool etching of the bands logo. It's pressed on translucent red vinyl and the logo is visible through the vinyl. It is really cool. Almost worth the price, just for the cool factor....... almost.....
