@uberwaltz,
You’re better off ordering the MT Silver Ghost phono cable w/ KLE Absolute Harmony RCAs from him.
I did it my way for my personal information.

I always wanted a SOTA . Had an opportunity to buy one locally, didn’t pan out. I assume it’s still sitting unused. Very sad. Frankly, after all of the blood, sweat and tears, I'm very happy with what I have now!

@bkeske,
I love and respect @noromance journey. His use of Jelco arms are well written.
Having said that, he was recently found to have a cart/arm mismatch after his years of experience.
I therefore don’t have love for Jelco.
My very first high end arm, Audioquest PT.5 . Manufactured by Jelco.

Been listening/enjoying Lp2 of "Venus & Mars" from the archives. |
Keep us posted Brian @bkeske |
FWIW, the Marc Tunis phono cable upgraded w/ KLE Absolute Harmony RCAs is a killer!!!!! Bought the KLE from www.partsconnexion.com. at 33% discount. Total investment under $300.00. I say yay!!!! |

How’s the SOTA sounding?
Steve |
Brian,
I totally agree with your thinking on your first paragraph!!! Look forward to reading all of your impressions when the time comes. BTW, does your SOTA have a recess in the platter for a record label?

@bkeske,
Know which cart you'll use? I promise not to suggest one. |
@bkeske,
IME, it's best to modify your fluid application to allow for no more than 2 rotations to completely dry the record. Any more than that introduces more than necessary static. |
@mammothguy54,
I recently did a shootout of The Cars "S/T" with my RCA Music Club version and the MFSL. For me, it was easy to hear the winner. I put the MFSL up on ebay, sold easily on auction for around $60.00. I just saw where MFSL is bringing it out again. My timing was impeccable. ha ha!
Now I need to compare that winner to my 1978 Elektra, no barcode version. |
@bkeske, Just noticed your post on the Record Doctor. I used one for decades. Never gave any trouble. The problem with vacuum cleaners is they introduce static. Maybe the Spin Clean helps alleviate that if used as the last step? I invested in a DeStat III a while back when www.partsconnexion.com had them at $100.00 off and it works very well. I use my VPI 16.5 as the final rinse/dry after the US cleaner just to speed things up. |
My boss called me back in for some limited work today. Had to take an 'old man nap' this afternoon. |
@mammothguy54,
I usually point people to this thread "Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning" under Analog. Lots of good info there.
DIY = do it yourself. Many people here have gone this route and have found it to be superior for much less money. It isn’t a plug + play or a put a record in and play when it’s done unit. I can guarantee a DIY machine will get your lps cleaner than most high dollar units.
Look at my systems page for a front view picture of my current DIY set-up.

OK, here goes.......
Side one of "GHS", ( mine came in somewhat warped), First, just a little preamble, I bought my only other copy in/around 1975. Always loved it. It is not the usual Rolling Stones music afterall, but always registered with me. I think most will say this was always an underrated record because of it’s then SQ. My copy always sounded sort of muddy/dull/not much detail. So when I saw this newly re-mastered version, and given I’m a dedicated vinyl guy, it seemed to be a no-brainer.
After the first few notes on side one, I was left not knowing what to think. The SQ was just so different from my memory of this lp. As I moved forward through the first side, I realized it is much better than I was use to but my feeling is it will take many more listenings to truly understand how much better this lp is than the original or any other lp copy of this lp is.. So far, my recommendation is to turn it up to at least 1 o’clock.
Now, side 2. Bass lines are/have been easy to follow. Nice detail. Wide soundstage. It seems so far, this record was limited to the quality of the recording studio at the time. The lyrics, the mood is/are so thoughtful and soulful which really gets to the heart of this great record and why it is to me, so special. In the end, a conservative rating will be an 8. But this record just so connects with me, it's enjoyable rating is a 9.
Lp 2 up later, and will be just "gravy".

@bkeske,
