uberwaltz OPThanks! Quiet day, wife working from home, just listening to what shows up on the Discogs randomizer |
The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers (Deluxe), Qobuz Hi-Res. Can't say it sounds any better in terms of sound quality, but some great songs!
|
Sticky Fingers Virgin reissue remastered by Bob Ludwig on CD or cassette is pretty spectacular. Some hires downloads are compressed, so who the heck knows.
|
Ray LaMontagne - Monovision
Qobuz Hi-Res |
Noticed all The Rolling Stones albums dropped on Qobuz today. Not a rabid Stones fan, but might listen to Tattoo You and relive my college days. |
Rolling Stones - Tattoo You
Qobuz Hi-Res
SQ a bit disappointing. But you don’t listen to the Stones for the engineering.🕴🏻🕺
|
The Virgin Tattoo You remaster 1994 by Bob Ludwig is spectacular. A marvel of engineering.. Maybe It’s your service that sucks. The 1994 CD or cassette will kick its butt.
|
I gave all of my Stones tapes and albums away for the reasons noted by Greg and 16f4, poor sq. Plus I do not really like the Stones anyway so not expecting too much from the Qobuz hires streams in all honesty. |
Mordechai ...... Khruangbin.
Qobuz hires |
Some Girls .... Stones.
Qobuz hires.
Sounds ok on my laptop........lol |
By coincidence I just listened to Some Girls on cassette, 1980s version, super analog sounding. Must be Stones day. Who said Stones make bad recordings? Come on, get it together guys.
|
uberwaltz OPAgree re: Rolling Stones. Planning on listening to the new Khruangbin album tomorrow, along with Arca. Trying to listen to newer artists to impress my grand-daughter. |
Philip Glass - Symphony No 4 Heroes

Trying the Stones Sticky Fingers on the main system. Sounds better. |
LiVE SPiRiT...... Depeche Mode.
Qobuz hires.
I also have this on hires BluRay Audio and it is spectacular SQ imho. |
Watching the Berliner Philharmonic live via Digital Concert Hall....
Still unattended because of the virus, but have been performing smaller chamber type music. On tap today, live:
’Baroque Concertos’ from various composers; Handel, Vivaldi, & Bach. |
Khruangbin - Mordechai

Nice mellow mix of genres. May have to listen to more of their stuff. |
Arca - KiCki
Qobuz Hi-Res
Not to my tastes, but interesting none the less. Might take another session to wrap my mind around it.

Ok, just was on a thread over at AV Forums ("White Lives Matter" - racist?) and started seeing some real uncomfortable comments. Need to get my head sorted, so listening to some good music from when UK music lovers gave a f*** about race relations.
Various Artists - The Best Of 2 Tone
Qobuz
Featuring the labels best known artists: Madness, The Selecter, The Specials, The (English) Beat, etc. |
I like the sound of the best of 2 tone, going to have to give that one a listen.
I have a great double album on vinyl, the best of Island which is a similar theme although a lot more variation in the music genre but still an excellent album. |

|
uberwaltz OPWow! Looks like a great album! Wish it were on Qobuz. |

Bill Bruford Feels Good to Me 2017 remix on Amazon
A recent find, keep going back to it |
@michaels36 - Never heard
Talk Talk - “The Colour of Spring” before. Streaming it via Spotify now. Really nice...... Thanks for posting it. |
Went on a long walk and listened to 6 episodes of the podcast Song Exploder (great podcast):
Mobb Deep - Shook Ones, Pt. IiReissue: Michael Kiwanuka - Black Man In A White World 100 Gecs - Money MachineLaura Marling - Song For Our Daughter Tame Impala - It Might Be Time Fka Twigs - Mirrored Heart Nathaniel Rateliff - And It's Still Alright
They are all worth a listen, and some I like very much: Michael Kiwanuka, Tame Impala (I know this track very well), Laura Marling, and Nathaniel Rateliff. If you want to impress a teenager, if that is an important endpoint, play 100 Gecs really loud. Consider yourself warned! Hip Hop has never been a go-to genre for me, but the podcast about Shook Ones is an amazing story, and a powerful song, particularly when one of the artists tells how and why this track came to be.

One of the "My Mixes" on Tidal - The Cars, Police, Talking Heads, Cheap Trick, good stuff! |
big_gregGood Music all! The soundtrack of my high school and college days. Still listen to all that stuff occasionally. |

@16f4 Tidal and Spotify both do a nice job of putting playlists together based on my listening habits. Tidal's tend to be more mainstream while Spotify brings up more deep cuts and artists that are forgotten or new to me. Sometimes it's nice to let the machine make the choices! |
I know what you mean. Sometimes I like to listen to Qobuz playlists in my car. |

nrbq, The worlds greatest bar band.... lol |
Ha! I would argue that NRBQ---in their classic line-up with Al Anderson playing guitar and singing, Joey Spampinato playing bass and singing, and both contributing songs---were not just the world’s greatest Bar band, but perhaps the greatest Rock ’n Roll band (Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe, and Elvis Costello agree with me). Rockpile could be too (I won’t mention yet again The Band ;-), but they lasted for only one album. Some may feel that honour belongs to The Stones, or The Who, or The Dead, or Led Zeppelin, but none of those bands are what I consider Rock ’n’ Roll. Many will disagree with that sentiment. When Bill Wyman left The Stones, Keith Richards offered Spampinato a job in the band. Joey elected to stay in NRBQ. Gotta admire integrity, ay? |
Bugger all right now as Roon has crashed on Google application.
