Volume normalization with Tidal and Bluesound Node 2(i)


I see this topic covered every now and then but I can't find anywhere describing how volume normalization on a streaming playlist can be handled without impacting audio quality. Bluesound settings and Tidal settings both seem not to be able to do this effectively...there are compromises described in what I've read.

What have I missed?

My setup is simple - Node 2 digital out into preamp/dac combo with remote. And no... I don't want to adjust the volume with the remote between tracks.

I've never encountered a satisfactory solution outside of remastering low level tracks and applying ReLife to "loudness war" tracks.

I’m pretty sure I don’t have volume normalization enabled with my Node 2i but recently had sudden lowering of volume (invariably, close to the end of songs) with my Tidal app coming from my iPhone to an Airport Express in a 2nd system. Somehow, volume normalization had gotten toggled on within that app and the problem disappeared when normalization was turned off. FWIW…
