Value of Sony XBR Tube TV's

I gave my last XBR away about 7 years ago. It may have been worth a little something back then but I wanted it gone. Great sets in the day, but I doubt they are worth anything now. What would you pay for one?

To give you an idea on tube tv's: Goodwill won't take them for free. I just gave away a 36 inch Sony flat screen. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay to have it hauled away.

I could not give away 36 inch top of line Sony XBR tube tv with matching stand. This 200lb+ tv is a beast to move. I had to disassemble the tv into parts to be able to get it out of the house. An electronics salvage company took the tv without a charge but I had to get it to the crib first.

My Goodwill still takes CRT TVs. At least they did last year.

Offer them on Craigslist for free.

If you have the time, consider taking it to a recycler. You might have to pay a few bucks, but you'll be assured that the lead and mercury laden components will be safely disposed of, and that they won't affect the local water table.

WA State, for example, is making a big push to keep its landfills free of electronics.

Courant - Checked into it locally in Columbus,Ohio. Recyclers are here but they do charge $1 per inch for TV recycling. That's the route I'll go. Thanks for the insight.

Gave away my 36" XBR in Feb 2013. My 1st floor living room is 10' off the ground. The guy I gave it to used a large front end loader to take it away. It took four guys to bring it into my house we bought it.

Yep.. just as a visual reference, If one were to take a drive through the Rio Las Vegas Hotel's east side parking structure, you will STILL find dozens of abandoned/swapped-out 32" tube televisions, which have been sitting out in the open near the ramp, for anyone to take, for the better part of a year or more now! No one wants them, nor will they take them away!! They are a real eye sore, and I'm surprised the Hotel doesn't just pay to get rid of them actually.

I will always be a fanboy of Sony XBR CRT sets. These are the finest tv(s) ever produced. Only the older Pioneer Elite plasma sets better them. The Japanese built those qualities from the start. LCD/LED are pure rubbish IMO. Happy Watching!

I still own a 34" (rectangular screen) Sony. Their last gasp in high end solid state tube HDTV was their 910-960 line and were considered to have the best picture by videophiles for quite some time. It sits in the corner of my bedroom and I have it hooked up to HD Box and HDDVD player. Frankly, I still think it has a better picture than my 50" Plasma but size and convenience trumps all these days, right?;) I'll keep it 'til it fails me. Honestly, every time I hear a complaint about the weight of tube televisions it makes me wonder. I mean, it's just another piece of furniture, can you move a dresser or a bed by yourself? As far as needing 4 guys to move one TV, they must of been some pretty small guys!;)
