Upgrade subwoofer for Carver ALIII

I have a pair of Carver ALIII for over 20 years. I have been upgrading preamp, power amp, speaker wire and each time I upgrade, I can hear the difference. For the price I paid for, I am very happy. But I know from day one, Carver ALIII did not use better grade subwoofers. Can any one give me some advise on upgrading the subwoofer? One web chat said the OEM were sourced from Eminence and are 4 ohm. I also know this is a 10" subwoofer, and I have been using 250 watts power amplifier to power these subwoofers. Thanks.

I know I am taking a big risk. I have very little knowledge about subwoofer. If I don't have a very clear advice and guideline, I will not change the subwoofer. Thanks for all the advises!

It’s not as simple as it sounds. You are going to change the character of your beloved speakers. You need to look into subs.

If there is no problem with the 10" woofers in the Carver speakers leave them alone! Eminence woofers are fine! The ones in the Carver speakers have been selected for optimum performance in that cabinet size. You cannot just use any random woofers as replacements. They are NOT subwoofers! Subs are different critters! I expect the Carver speakers go down to 32hz. For lower bass you will need a powered sub or two.
