Both aforementioned opinions have merit. Depends on how one wants to configure ones system. However, I would buy a DAC and use the Arcam as a transport. Greater flexibility down the road. Both DACs you are considering are highly regarded. FWIW, I use a Arcam DVD137 as a transport into my Bryston BDA-1. I use a Audiophellio2 for USB/SPDIF conversion.
Upgrade CDP, or go with outboard DAC?
Hi group,
I'm trying to figure out the best way to proceed: I have two older Arcam CD players: the Alpha 9, and the MCD. I'm debating buying a Rega Saturn-R (my amp is a Rega Elicit-R...like the synergy; also the Saturn has a good DAC)......or, should I, instead, go for a better outboard DAC, and use the Arcams as transports. Both are in very good condition.
I've been looking at the Wyred4Sound DAC-2 DSDse and the NAD M51;
I primarily listen to CDs, and am moving toward more computer-based audio.
Thanks, in advance, for your advice. Also....open to other suggestions,
Jeff
