@mofimadness. Spot on about the magic of Red Rocks. So many wonderful memories of shows there, including a near-legendary night with Chuck Mangione playing under a lunar eclipse. I am in the Colorado Symphony Chorus and so I’ve had the good fortune of performing a number of times at Red Rocks. One of the most fun was singing backup to the Flaming Lips in 2016 when they played the entire Soft Bulletin album to a packed house of adoring fans, a performance available on an album. I have pictures of myself with Wayne Coyne taken in the bowels under the stage as souvenirs. Having stood on that stage, flanked by the red cliffs and seeing thousands of cheering fans in that amphitheater, I can see why performers lick their chops for the opportunity to play there and lay down such amazing performances there. Speaking of wonderful concerts, we (the Colorado Symphony, Symphony Chorus, Colorado Children’s Chorale and soloists) are performing Orff’s Carmina Burana this very weekend. Everyone should hear Carmina Burana live at least once. Come check it out! |
@77jovian...that is SO COOL! I’ve been to Red Rocks many, many, many times over the past 50 years and still find it magical & ethereal. My claim to fame is that I have been present at quite a few "filmed" concerts at Red Rocks. Saw the Moody Blues with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Amos Lee with the Symphony. Those were FANTASTIC shows!
One of my fondest memories was the first time the Indigo Girls played there. It was drizzling and spitting rain all day. You could see the lightening and dark clouds back behind the stage as the storm was moving in. As soon as they came out and starting playing "Secure Yourself", (with the first line of the song being "Secure yourself to heaven, hold on tight the night has come") they both raised their arms up to the heavens...and it stopped raining. It stayed dry until right after their 3rd encore. The second the lights popped on, it started pouring rain. By the time we got back to the car, there was at least 2 inches of water on the ground and continued for the rest of the night. It’s like the deluge stopped for them to perform then just let go...what a supernatural night! I will never forget...
