I have vintage bass reflex studio monitors from the 70s and one channel has a tweeter that is distorting on certain passages that contain super high energy vocals or really bright horns. Does that mean the tweeter is bad or could that be in the crossover?
It's volume dependent. Anything above low-medium level gets it going. But it's fine up until then. That kinda sounds like a physical thing, not an electronic one.
I had a midrange from that era where the voice coil became partially delaminated from the diaphragm. I guess it could be the crossover, but I have not experienced that before. Good luck!
