follfreak, reubent, Thanks for the intel on Joni Mitchell. ghosthouse also told me about her original version on "The Minority Report". Todays first is Neil Young, " Harvest Moon". https://youtu.be/jFwxz370heoN |
@folkfreak
You win, but then, you are a folk freak.....just saying'..
I think a lot of people are surprised when they find out some great, well known rock songs are actually covers. Lots of examples, of which this is a good one. And, of course, Nazareth's big hit - "Love Hurts" is another classic example.

@reubent Joni Mitchell, track two side two on Blue |
Nutty,
"This Flight Tonight", in its original album version, as well as this acoustic version, is probably my favorite Nazareth song. But, it's a cover. Do you know who wrote it and originally recorded it?

Nutty,
Glad you are enjoying Frontier Folk Nebraska. It ain't folk, and they're not from Nebraska. :~)
You guys should go check them out when they are back at Southgate House Revival. Really small venue, up close and personal. Bring earplugs!
For another great local Cincinnatian's show, check out Adrian Belew when he returns to the 20th Century theater next month. I know you're a fan of guitar bands. He's a guitarist's guitarist...... |
reubent,
Listening to Frontier Folk Nebraska now. Like what I hear! "Buffalo Summer" is a great track. Thanks for the recommendation.

Nutty and All,
Here’s another local N. KY/Cincinnati Band that’s currently touring and making good records.
Frontier Folk Nebraska
I’ve seen them a few times and they are very good live. They play pretty regularly at Southgate House Revival and will be there later this month. I saw them there last year the nights they recorded their live album. Looks like they might be down at SXSW right now playing multiple venues.
Check out "Desert Car Chase", "I’m Electric, Call me Lightning" and "Buffalo Summer" from their album "Frontier F**k Nebraska". Good stuff....

reubent, I very heard of the Ass Ponys. Perhaps youve encountered Swan in your travels in and around Cincy/N. Ky? Nutty, I've never heard Swan. Hopefully I will cross their path someday. Ass Ponys were a major local band back in the mid '90's. The had some critical acclaim nationally with their album "electric rock music". It may be an acquired taste for some listeners, but it is a favorite of mine since it was introduced. The lead singer and songwriter from Ass Ponys is Chuck Clever. He's co-lead of the local band Wussy who have received considerable nation acclaim. |
reubent,
I listened some more to Dawg Yawp. I find them very interesting and certainly, they stand out from the crowd. I thought it could be worth buying (it is available on vinyl) but upon listening over Amazon, the SQ seemed too digital. Thanks for making us aware. slaw, It is available on vinyl. I'm going to pick it up and I'll let you know how it sounds.... |

slaw, At that time with J.Geils I'm pretty sure there were various drugs involved in the inspiration for "no anchovies"😎

Song of the Day! Adrian Belew combines with the Raisins to form the Bears. Pop Rock Perfections is the result...... If your foot is not tapping, or your head is not bobbing, your not doing it right.... The Bears - "Fear is Never Boring" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDRdnhnPZfw |
(Before I get any remarks about "too digital", let me explain. I have many digital recordings on vinyl. Some make the grade. Others do what some digital recordings do worse..... overall fatiguing to listen to or even start listening to, highlights the extremes of any frequency range as to make it unnatural, can be heard as "sterile or bright".)
