back to Brubeck........a couple years ago or so as I discovered the many wonders of music on youtube I came across a video of Dave Brubeck and band at Newport .....I think it was 1971,Dave was wearing quite a funky outfit of plaid pants ......and the video was over an hour solid and though I was somewhat familiar with his music this was my most deep immersion in it and I watched/listened to this over and over enchanted . I don't think this particular video is still circulating,at least I can't find it intact as it was. Jerry Mulligan,Paul Desmond .....wow and a reminder to myself that emotion and beauty can be transmitted musically even through meager means. I've had many a youtube musical moment,but I'd say this Dave Brubeck,and around the same time chronologically,discovering Chopin's nocturnes,after seeing the movie The Pianist , have been two of the most profound recorded musical experiences I've had . |

@reubent ,
Thanks for responding. I realized that this may not be an exercise in audio that results in good feelings...so, let's just drop it?
I have the lp (STP). It sounds horrible in terms of SQ

@slaw -
What band if any, has ever covered Pink Floyd's "Interstellar Overdrive"? I can't answer that one. We'll not without Googling it! However, I do know an EXCELLENT cover of STP's - "Interstate Love Song" Steve Ferrone's Farm Fur from the album - More Head - "Interstate Love Song" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWE5QZT3k3QAnd if you like that, check out "Steve's Strutt" from the same album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLHJhPOnrDw |
@slaw Glad to hear that. Mine too, I'd say. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to "get into" their albums after this one, but I have all the studio releases coming before it.

Laura Veirs "Summer is the Champion" !!! .......check it out |

The bar started off pretty darn high. I’ll have to think about it a while....
It’s a great exercise in music knowledge/discovery though....?
Actually, I had a music question ready to go, so here it is...
What band if any, has ever covered Pink Floyd's "Interstellar Overdrive"? I do realize this can be looked up on Google. I'm relying on the good faith system.
Cheers! |

@reubent ,

Hey Slaw - When I saw your Fogelberg/Weisberg post, I did think the album title ironic (in a good way) given some of our exchanges. Honestly, though, back in the day (a friend taped that one for me) I was never crazy about it. Probably more Weisberg’s end of things. A little lightweight sounding with that flute, maybe. Fogelberg I generally like. I re-purchased Netherlands not too long ago. An old one I used to have and loved. Got re-issued "audiophile" vinyl (what a load) but the SQ on the recording was a real disappointment. Tipped up high end. Ear bleed stuff. Haven’t played it since. Maybe I should just look for old vinyl or go CD. Take care.

I've done a 180 since I first listened to this lp. Maybe it's because of system upgrades, newly implemented US cleaning, fresh ears (no preconceived notions) or all of the above. Sounds wonderful!

Didn't mean to step on your post, Nutty (hate when that happens to me). Duende from Bozzio Levin Stevens "Black Light Syndrome" is excellent. Great sound quality and musicianship. Worth checking out if someone is unfamiliar with it. https://youtu.be/MkYJb_NVTJ4 |
