Hello, I just bought a Pro-ject Tube Box II SE, and am trying different tubes (Mullard re-issues), but the original tubes have these plastic tube dampers on them that I can't seem to take off... Any suggestions on how to remove them? And do they really help the sound? Thanks...
I don't have any secrets of how to remove the left on; I use dampers on my 6922's in my PSE HL-1 with great success; they are from herbies audio labs; check them out;only a few $$ and they work with no left on.
Yes, they are intended to help reduce microphonics, caused by the vibration of the glass. Some of the earlier products like the 3M ring will stick to the glass after the tube heats up. And you will not be able to remove it afterwards.
