Nice score on those CS 1.6 speakers.
Happy Listening!
Epilogue: The drivers were toast. Sent To Coherent Source Service and had them rebuilt and just now re-installed the woofers. I've come to the conclusion that the fiberglass doesn't have to come out as I put it all back in (the large piece posteriorly) but you have to have arms like an orangutan to either remove or replace the speakers (35 sleeve length and I just BARELY was able to reach ). I'm assuming that white is positive (not like house wiring where white is neutral). Now I have to connect them and see if I screwed up anything in the installation. What we do for love! |
I’m not sure what you originally paid for the damaged speakers, but I think the cost to repair them will be well worth it. One of the last genuine Jim Thiel designs. Used Thiel CS1.6 for Sale | HifiShark.com |
Well, I managed it. If anyone reads this post the removal sequence is to remove the bottom with the x-over, unscrew the driver, unsolder the leads (remember where they hook up), pull out ALL the fiberglass (wear long sleeves and gloves!) but wait, there is a screw and washer going from front to back which holds the back part of the insulation, then the speaker will slide out. Now to test that sucker! If the drivers need to be replaced I may just scrap it for the good parts. |
