The Truth About Power Cords and there "Real" Price to Performance

This is a journey through real life experiences from you to everyone that cares to educate themselves. I must admit that I was not a believer in power cords and how they affect sound in your system. I from the camp that believed that the speaker provided 75% of the sound signature then your source then components but never the power cord. Until that magic day I along with another highly acclaimed AudioGoner who I will keep anatomist ran through a few cables in quite a few different systems and was "WOWED" at what I heard. That being said cable I know that I am not the only believer and that is why there are so many power cord/cable companies out there that range from $50 to 20-30 thousand dollars and above. So I like most of you have to scratch my head and ask where do I begin what brand and product and what should i really pay for it?

The purpose of this discussion to get some honest feed back on Price to Performance from you the end user to us here in the community.

Please fire away!

blainer55,
I've tried to logically make sense of why a power cord would make a difference and agree with you that they shouldn't. The thing is, in my system they do. I've never gone full hog on them but have tried, oyaide, synergistic, acoustic revive, cerious, pangea, cardas, & tributaries (probably forgetting a couple here). They all sound different. From a value standpoint, cerious & synergistic are great. They are very well rounded and clear throughout. Acoustic Revive are the best I've heard (great synergy in my system) to this point. Very transparent but also more expensive.
" So do any of you think that a 99.999% pure silver braided, shielded, twisted, cold-press or silver soldered-in-an-argon-chamber, oxygen free / techflex-skinned, 3M heatshrink covered cable on elevators made from African Panke-baobab-wood harvested by bearded millennial vegan artisans from 2400 year-old trees is going to make an audible difference going that last 6-10 feet from your A/C wall outlet into your gear’s IEC port?"

Yes
" I firmly believe that science should be the primary factor in deciding how lovers of pure sound reproduction should spend their money and set their priorities in making their purchases"

I firmly believe that "lovers of pure sound reproduction" should spend their money anyway they please. What are you 12?
"Question? In your humble opinion, what is the best Power Cord and what do you like about them from prices that range:"

$50-$100 / None
$200-300 / Oyaide (DIY)
$400-500 / Cerious
$600-$1000 / Acoustic Revive
>$1000 / Jena Labs

Obviously I haven't tries all cables available but these are the ones I've left in my system for any given time due to sound quality. It goes without saying that this is only my opinion. Yours will vary.
"boxer12
Can you tell us what you had them counted to?"

$200-300 / Oyaide (DIY)
These were connected to everything (I have several). Some are still in place (to the amps & TT power supply)

$400-500 / Cerious
Connected from wall to exactpower transformer (everything but the power amps go through this dedicated transformer)

$600-$1000 / Acoustic Revive
Connected to the power supply for the phono preamp & dac. Also connected to the Acoustic Revive "Power strip" (from the transformer)

>$1000 / Jena Labs
Connected to the preamp

unfairlane / Thanks for your opinion

cd318 / No "Paranoid Cableitus" here. Great sound reproduction though
Dyna, Your example is only of value if your ears are no better than that of a recording engineer.
rcfun33 says:
" Use a $5K cable for the final 3 ft and plug it into a $3 outlet and $0.12/ft, 14 gauge wire that runs 75 ft back to the breaker box."

That would be a real waste of a nice power cord unless you added at least two zero's behind the outlet price.
Bluemartini, Check out VH Audio for the wire & connectors. Chris is a great guy to deal with.
bluemartini,
What $40K power cable are you asking about? FWIW, you really resemble a troll.
