Tekton Design Moab

Ordered a pair just now. In Dark Gray, to which Tammy immediately said, "Oh the Charcoal is beautiful!" Charcoal sounds better than Dark Gray (even though we are talking about the same color!) so Charcoal it is!

My beloved Talon Khorus do still sound awfully good. It will be interesting to see how the Moabs stock out of the box compare with these tweaked and modded warhorses. Both the strength, and the weakness, of the Khorus is using the 10" woofer to cover so much midrange. Its a strength because it makes for a very smooth and cohesive sound. But its a weakness because its asking a lot of such a large driver to go so high. Talon makes up for it with their isobaric design. Mounted inside and directly behind the woofer is another identical driver facing the opposite direction. The idea is this relieves the front facing driver of having to compress the air inside the cabinet. This does allow for a much faster response, and is a big reason for the wonderful music the Khorus produces.

I have a feeling however it is no match for Eric Alexander's ultra-low mass driver array solution. Only one way to know for sure. So we will just have to see!

funny how these things work out
Actually pretty much any speaker measurements done by JA are fairly exacting and go way beyond simple frequency response measures as described in the beginner coloring book guide to measurements. In particular pay attention to the impulse response
and energy storage plots. For those of us with many types of speakers, it becomes fairly easy to discern what they do well and failings. And IF it hurls in the chamber, not likely to be all that great in a random room. Of course great designers do both , especially matching and tuning to the reference in chamber.
The measurements that reflect time, phase and energy storage are the impulse test and waterfall over time. IF the poster Comparing Wilson and Magico really seeks to understand....But then again, when the designer wires the midrange out of phase and uses steep slopes, all bets are off on time and phase. Of course those designs have other strengths...
The laser measures physical cone movement and compares it to input signal. You can do this in free space or w driver mounted. The back wave reflection back thru the cone can be nasty, to keep this agnostic there is an expired patent on low reflection drivers... the humble would exploit that
anything using a microphone and the whole speaker obviously captures whatever baffles and cabinet are doing - obviously several well placed accelerometer will reveal a lot and can be traced via input signals.
IF the cabinet is moving that counts as output... so no, not all designers care about it and seek to eliminate it...

ditto with pistonic motion, in well engineered mid ranges pistonic will be -3db ( same size cone, flux in gap, moving mass )

never mind the + 3db midrange achieve higher output via constructive and destructive output = trash = distortion
Time alignment is about a coherent wave launch above 120 ish or so HZ. It ain’t that difficult
yes, let’s just all ignore the mentally ill....the Dotard Dumpsterfire way

that is the jist of the detractors....color me in the eighteen with great joy

the compassionate are welcome anytime in Seattle or Carlsbad, we serve Davis, it’s rotgut but we run it thru a topspin quark filter first...

hwymech - hope ya make it dude !
BTW an Olympic medalist is homeless in Seattle, but let’s just click those magical Ayn Randian slippers together and go back to 1950 when everything was perfect.....

So Charles, take a cut at the “ presidential “ super spreader events ?
200k dead and climbing, might be good to get beyond the elderly co-morbidity lie

also for those with loved ones unable to buy HQ ( Lupus ), many did without because it was purchased by people with no current medical need.

as for the CDC, the comms guy who caused much of the revisions and confusion cited above is now home alone..,

of course, we can all look to Herman Cain for medical advice...

Well when your political decisions stop killing La Familia, I might back off

Sure, musical instrument drivers would shine with a musical instrument amp.

yes, I have heard 4 pair now. The latest with a nice worked over EICO
