I use banana on the speakers and spades on the amp…
Tannoy or Volti
I have a friend who has the Tannoy Prestige GRF 90 for sale he is moving out of the country for half price, he paid $29000 in around 2020 not made in China. I am upgrading my Forte IVs, I am also considering the Volti audio Lucera…anyone that has heard the Tannoy and any other suggestions which will be better would be appreciated….I have a few first watt amps and several tube amps…plus Jeff Rowland and Pass Labs amps..

@charles007100 My Luceras are the only Volti's I've heard in person. It is my understanding that each model up the scale sounds a bit more awesome than the one below it. Good thing I've never heard the Rivals, I can't afford 'em, lol. I've always been a Klipsch fan. But the Volti's have superior construction and components. 1" birch ply vs 3/4" MDF for example. The metal horns are damped. Custom veneer...they're end-game speakers. |
From your demo, you’ve discovered they sound different. Likewise, the Devore O/96 will sound different than your AN-E. Best to demo yourself. @charles007100 - are you also considering non-horn efficient speakers? If so, maybe consider Coherent Audio or Charney. |
Thanks Everyone, I went back over this morning early and had coffee with my friend who has the Volti Razz spent a long time listening to a variety of music. I have made a decision I want to stay away from horns they are just too fatiguing in the long run..the Volti sounds awesome but just too much for my ears. So it’s back to square one, being retired I listen to music for hours so I need a speaker more mellow, may not be possible with my gear..more suggestions will be appreciated..my gear..Pass Labs preamp,Pass XA-25 First Watt Sit-3, Alan Eaton 2A3 monos..and Jeff Rowland 125 amp..Dac Meinter MA3, Forte IVs need to exit stage left..all this gear can leave too if something is more suited for speaker recommendations…16k for speakers … |
