Hi Goheelz---I really like the Heed Quasar, it's a good match with the 17D3 cart; it's neutral, fast, and detailed, with great extension at both ends and plenty of soundstaging and "air". It has plenty of gain for low-output MCs. It has an outboard power supply, which I suspect contributes to it's performance. When I tried loading the Dynavector at the "standard" 100 ohms, however, the sound was somewhat dead and closed-in; changing the loading to 220 ohms really brought the sound to life.
I notice that you're using the Dynavector P75 in your system. A while back I bought one from Music Direct and used it for a month or so, but found that the noise floor rose to an unacceptable level when I tried using it in enhanced mode, so I sent it back.
As pleased as I am with the sound of the Heed, I'm curious how much of an improvement a carefully chosen step-up transformer would bring to my set-up.---Will
