Spectron Audio Musician II Class D Amp - anybody still using?

Hi All!

I'm getting back into the 2 channel hobby after stepping away for several years.  I'm going to invest in and build a new 2 channel system with a budget of $15-20k.  I have an old Spectron 500 Watt Class D Amp.  Is anybody using one of these any longer?  I need to decide if I'll use my old Spectron or start from scratch with an integrated (Hegel 390 or eq Michi is what I'm considering). I believe the owners of Spectron Audio have either passed away or closed shop.  Btw, the speakers I'm planning to build around are Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Baby Grand Reference.

Thanks!

If you wanna stay D I would recommend more modern tech like GaN.

That said I've never heard your amp and you really should compare before changing direction.

Look up Danny Ritchie of GR Research on youtube to see what he does with those speakers.

Thanks Roxy, I did watch it.....Same VA brand, but the one's I bought are a different line within the brand.  Still kinda troubling to watch though.  Does Danny like any speaker other than DIY kits?

Danny is first and foremost a salesman. All his videos are designed to serve one and only one purpose.

John Ulrich died in 2015 but is consistently regarded as a magician with his amplifiers. The hegel 390 is a beautiful piece of work as well, and has newer technology in it. I’ve heard the Michi driving some somewhat underwhelming Martin Logan’s so I’m not sure whether what I heard was underwhelming because the speakers or because of the amp.

Your viennas are four ohms and a rated at 89 DB’s so you don’t want anything too high-powered. I mean, most amps don’t run it anything near full output, but I would say 200 watts at the very top for your speakers. Anything more than that I think is going to be a waste of wattage and price.
