Speakers to pair with Elicit-R / Rega Planar 6?

I am in the market for a pair of floorstanding loudspeakers for a medium size room. I have:

Rega Planar 6
Shiit Mani phono preamp
Rega Elicit-R

I have not heard compelling things about Rega’s speakers and wanted to get any recommendations on a speaker set that might pair well? I play classical/pop music mostly.

Budget < $3k

Thanks so much for any feedback you have!

Great amp.  Try Harbeth Compact 7’s.  I had great success with a pair of Audio Note AN E’s and the Elicit as well.
I have a used pair of Magnepans 3.5R.  I purchased it a few years back for less than 2k.  I have the Rega RP6 with Rega Aria pre.  Bunch of tube gears and the system really sings.

Have you ever considered Magnepan’s? I don’t know what you have for an amp or the size of your room But you could Magnepan 1.7i and a REL Acoustics T/5i subwoofer. The Maggies are ~$2k depending on options. The REL costs $599 at UpscaleAudio.com. Total less $3K.

I have the 1.7is and a REL Strata III subwoofer. They make music sound real. You read reviews about 1.7i on The Absolute Sound.

I currently have a couple B&W 602 Series 3's and a couple B&W Matrix HTM's (basically two centers used in Stereo setup).  I swap between the two and the HTM's are clearly better (even though much older).  I'm a bit amateur when it comes to hifi, so no judgement please :D

I am looking for floorstanding as I want a bit more lower end.  I know this probably isn't practical, but I enjoy some classical so I want the crisp vocals and piano but also listen to harder/faster music (rock) and would love the brightness.  Not sure if that combination even exists or if it's contradictory.

I've explored the Spender line but unless buying used it's pretty pricey.

@ruebent: I would HIGHLY suggest you invest the small sum of money and pick up the Mani.  You will not be disappointed.

Thanks everyone for your comments thus far!!!

What sound characteristics of system and speaker performance are most important to you?
Depending on your taste, Rega has a decidedly warm sound profile for their amplifiers.  They also tend to do best with speakers that are easy to driver in terms of impedance.  They may be rated for 4 ohms but they will not be at their best.

I would look at a neutral to slightly forward sounding speaker with a min impedance above 4 ohms, ideally above 6 ohms.  What you haven't mentioned is if they should be stand-mount or floor-standing.

My initial thought is that Paradigm would be a good option but it would come down to the specific model.  This would lead to a pretty neutral sound profile.  Another option would be the Monitor Audio Silver line (200s) and paired with the Rega, would be to the warm side of neutral.

@bound4h - What speakers are you using now? Or did you start your system build with electronics first?

I have a Rega Elicit-R and a Rega Saturn-R CD/Transport/DAC. Love them both. My TT is currently a Pro-Ject Debut Esprit SB, but I'm working on an upgrade. I've been using a couple of different vintage Infinity Speakers (Infinity RS1.5 and Infinity Qb) to very good effect, however I know I could likely do better if I wanted to invest a bit of money.

I've actually heard good things about the Rega floorstanders. I think it would be pretty cool to have an all Rega system.

Question: Do you prefer the Mani over the phono stage built into the Elicit-R? Or do you have a MC cartridge that requires more gain, etc.?

Good luck in your search.
