speakers that are a little laid back in the mids

I'm just curious what full range speaker people have found where the mids, voices etc are not so up front. I have had my share of speakers and some I considered to be very good but over time seem to be on top of you. Not necessarily harsh however. My room is 13 x 16 and I have used tubes and ss.

Revel, Fritz, Monitor Audio can all be said to be laid back IMHO and among my favorite listens.  Vandersteen too.

Sometimes the best route is to start upstream...many, not all 300B amplifiers have a wonderful full natural sound including but not limited to the midrange...You might consider the deVore's, The Baby is tempting me...So many speakers today have very irritating midrange which is by many people interpreted as "detailed". They sound good for a while but soon become irritating. 

When I was a dealer I carried the Sophia Electric 300B's. A great baseline for the rest of your system.

Perhaps another way to go at it: equalization. The RME ADI FS 2 includes a five-band parametric equalizer.
