Speaker wire... Diy?

I am new to this, so please bare with me. I always thought 12 gauge speaker wire, bare on each end, was best. But there is Kimber, Nord, etc, that seem to be incrementally better! Can I buy the components and put together my own $17000 speaker wires? If so, where can they be purchased, and which are good enough to be used? Which terminations are best for sound? Which wire? Length? Guage?

ieales, If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Don’t you have an opinion on cables? I didn’t think so. just a lot of hot air. That would make you the troll. Moroncity indeed.
That’s why these cable threads have been going on for forty years with pretty much the same results.
mostly due to trolls that ruin the experience. Moronicity is seldom humorous. Tedious, definitely.

@ddjr - it is entirely possible with your gear that you do not hear any difference. With other gear you might.
Trying to straighten out audiophiles is like trying to herd cats. That’s why these cable threads have been going on for forty years with pretty much the same results. I reckon if networks was the answer every cable manufacturer and his brother would be using networks. Audiophiles tend to have very strong preconceived notions of wires and cables. Even the OP has a few.
Let me be clear about this...I am not a DIY’r!  For me, and drawing from my own experiences, wire is wire unless it has a box or a network on it.  No matter how many types of cable designs I’ve used or experimented with, none have performed more gloriously than Transparent or MIT!  The tonal balance, dynamic range and oodles of pure, unforced low level detail, simply can’t be equaled by any other manufacturer...at IMHO!
gentlemen, that is great, you're very funny... But do you have any opinions on the question that I posed here? Thank you for hijacking my thread with your hilarity, much appreciated. But if we could get back on track...
In space no one can hear you scream. Is a violinist making music if no one is there to hear it? Music is defined as the sound a musical instrument or speaker makes. Duh! 😳

Music is not what emerges from the speakers although it is frequently colloquially thought of it in that way.

Music is your perception, mostly in your head. The end of that "music line" is (possibly) chemically-affected electrical charges, I think. Voltage, or whatever else gets into play there.

Before that, it is just "movement" of the medium between speakers and your nerves.
Music is what emerges from the speakers. Before that it’s just voltage and current.
Stay in school, maxi.

Stop Dave.....Stop Dave......I am afraid.........I am afraid Dave.
To infinity and....😔

I GOT NOWHERE ELSE TO GO!!!

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
You might be wrong rabbit...you might 🐰

Then what is the music great one?  Is it the fluctuations between the inter dimensional exchange of strings during their quantum superpositions as they react to changing Voltage and Current within and between audio components?
“Dave?”

“Dave?”

“Dave?”

“Dave’s not here.”

Right, everything affects the “signal.” But the signal is not the music, remember from last class? The only things in the cable or wire that can be affected are voltage and current. Could I be wrong?
Voltage changes?  I always thought everything effects the signal however...cable purity, EMF noise, insulation, equipment quality and matching, Quantum fluctuations in the space time continuum etc...🙄
Hhhhhhhhhhh... Anyone else not hear a difference between (brown/black 4 wire) kimbers and regular old speaker wire? I will say, the radio stations are all a bit staticy where I live. Maybe I should pair my CD player with the system? Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Metaphors be with you.

pop quiz! 🤗

If it’s true the “audio signal” in cables and wire and fuses is simply (alternating) voltage and current, I.e., not a music waveform, what is the distortion in cables, etc.? Is it voltage and current distortion?
Yikes, "proconsul," please. "Pro Counsel" is Michael Cohen, Tom Hagen, or something in between.
Can we agree it’s the rate that current and voltage alternate? If so, then what cables and wires carry is plain old current and voltage.
The constantly changing frequency of the field tracks the musical program material?  That’s all I got 😔
I know the electrons carry the charge (EF) across an electrical potential through the circuit at near TSOL.  Electrons do get exchanged very slowly as well, but I see your point.  As Spock would say, it’s Pure Energy!
The electrons are simply the charge carriers. And they are virtually not moving. They are not the music and they are not the signal. Oh, did I just give you the answer? Ps I’m going out on a limb here saying you probably don’t remember a single thing from your textbooks. You have one more guess. Better make it a good one.
So electrons don’t get exchanged back and forth through the conductive material?  Your telling me my text books are wrong?  How dare you sir 🧐
My Kimber cables came today. I have one speaker run with Kimber, one with regular old lampcord speaker wire. I honestly don't hear any difference. Both ends of the kimbers are banana clips. They just slide into the hole, yes? Not into the hole in the threaded post?
This isn’t multiple choice, but I’ll give you two more choices anyway.
You mean a can of electrons, don’t you GK?  Tell us how they flow...cause I really wanna know...I really wanna know ..know..know..know...how they do!!
See what I did there...used a WHO motif and stuff?  Pretty cool right?
Well, actually they’re not really passing music through them but that kind of opens up a whole new can of worms. 😛
I think many of us here if here to learn and share about DIY stuff with regards to our audios. As long as we are learning we should keep on trying. As we try new things, we discover new knowledge and skills, and that's the best part of it. We can the share what we have learned to others.
For $50 I bought off Amazon 10 ft of Sky High Car Audio 8 gauge (yes, I said 8 gauge. It’s thick) OFC speaker cable and monoprice banana plugs. It sounds very good, I mean competitive with some $800 runs I have.

Systems...thought I’d correct the spelling before our resident Kat finds it and wants to spank me again 😱
Ok, one vote for transparent cables. One for helix. anyone else have any luck with do it your self speaker wire?
Whatever floats your boat!  I’ve used so many different types of cables over the decades and have not found any that do my sustem(s) more justice than Transparent or MIT.
This is a thread about DIY speaker cables.  Not you two.  Why don't you and your buddy start your own thread?
Dave b - still a little sore from the spanking, eh? It’ll be OK in a few days. A cold shower probably wouldn’t hurt.
GK deals with the subliminal, existential reality of audio.  More of a Zen like sensibility toward things acoustic.  Suggestibility flows vigorously through such psychologically fluid frontiers.  PT Barnum maneuvered through similar terrain quite successfully, sans the adornment of misappropriated and dubiously applied scientific theory.
Does anyone have a theory why - all things being equal - cables with white jackets sound better than cables with jackets that are black or another color? Just curious. You can actually test this theory by wrapping your existing cable or power cord with white tape. Check it out. No, I’m not hot dogging you. 🌭
The power of the Peter...DHC is what we’re talking about?  Or are we back to DIY stuff again 😕
