Solid state preamp with a mono switch and remote

I have been a tube guy for quite some time, but would like to pick up a good quality solid state preamp with remote control and a mono switch, just to have as a reference point.

Im looking for recommendations for great sounding units under $5k.

The mono switch seems to be the limiting factor, i checked out the latest “Recommended Components” list and all of the “reasonably priced” solid state options lacked the mono function.

You might try contacting Arek Kallas at Hattor Audio (link) to ask if he could do what you need as a special project.  His main product line provides a high level of quality at reasonable prices.

I would recommend to look for an Accuphase C2420/C2450/C2300 one.. Japan’s 100V AC version of first two can be easily converted to US or Europe, not sure about newer C2300. C2420/C2450 has good sounding optional two inputs MM/MC Phono. Built-in (free) headphones amp sounds amazing!

Anthem STR preamp has a Mono listening mode. The remote has a mode button and mono is selected from the menu button on the preamp. Run it pure analog or take advantage of ARC (Anthem Room Correction). Includes a decent MM/MC phono stage.

@george_r +1 on the Anthem STR. I’ve owned that amp and it is very solidly built and does everything well for a fair price.

Over 60 year period I had SS, then tubes, then SS, then back to Tubes. You know you prefer tubes.

I use a Chase RLC-1 Remote Line Controller so that I can continue to enjoy my Vintage Full Featured Tube Tuner Preamp which has no remote features.

This is an unusual listing for two working units with 2 remotes for $120., one unit has cosmetic issue.

You get optional features: remote power, remote volume, remote balance, remote tone controls, and it has automatic and progressive bass boost for very low level listening. I only use 1 input in/out, but it has 4 selectable lines in and 2 identical out..

Once you realize how much difference a slight tweak to balance can make, there is no living without it.

You can use it in/out or in a switched loop like tape or processor.

Neither I nor any of my friends have ever been able to detect if it is In or Out of my 3 systems.

From time to time there are none available to several, like now

You MUST have a remote, there are no controls on the unit.

Addendum:

How often will you choose mono?

See my first post to this thread.

I love a mono switch, but rarely used it when available from my vintage Pilot gear.

I really enjoy having a mono switch as it helps me understand where the center "should" be, as often times I experience the center image sliding to one side or the other.  It provides a quick mental reset for me, helping me to enjoy the music more.
