So, I Got To See A Real Cool Show Last Week; A Review:

I’ve only listened to enough Primus, and also read just enough, to know what a wizard Les Claypool is on the bass. I’m not sure how many of you know about the tour I’m talking about … because, had I not been paying attention, I might’ve missed it too!

It was held at a real cool outdoor venue right in the middle of a cool neighborhood in downtown KC, about ten blocks from my place, and It’s a side band Les put together to tour this summer, playing Pink Floyd’s Animals album from cover to cover.

The other musicians were Sean Lennon on bass, Roger Waters’ son, Harry, on keyboards, a drummer I’d never heard of … and Mike D. on the marimba.

I’ve seen Mike play live a few times and wasn’t surprised at all by his virtuosity, and I definitely wasn’t surprised to see Les smoking on his bass … it was Sean Lennon’s performance that I found most astounding … and I guess you had to be present to know how well that fits. I didn’t know anything about his musical talent except that he inherited some very cool genes from both his mom and dad. He totally freaking killed it.

Harry’s performance was on a par with Sean’s, but it was interesting how subtle his musical genius shined thru. I don’t know diddly about the mechanics of music, outside of my critical listening skills that I’ve developed from spending way the hell too much money on some really fun equipment, Lol … but the way that he controlled the tempo of the songs with his instrument along with Les Claypool’s bass was truly something to behold. Again, you kinda had to be there.

Like my friend, Martha said: every single one of them were SO well connected in their playing. One thing is for sure … they all appeared to be having a freaking blast. And that synergy, of course, is the reason the show came off the way it did.

Mike put us on the guest list for VIP tickets, which was very generous, and I took a woman who works for me who is like my big sister and only a few years older, so she grew up with it on FM radio also. It was a seriously fun night!

The reason I’m starting this thread is to get the word out about the tour. It was a sold out show here in KC, fyi in case you want to secure tickets on the tour.

I want to request that if you contribute to this thread, please don’t be a ding a ling and turn it into a political rant and get the thread shut down. I think this is G rated enough, so please be respectful. Or G-rated enough to keep the thread going.

I can assure you I feel as strongly about the implications all the way around about how relevant the set material is in our present day world, but I’m also a big believer in the freedom to hear all sides … given that ... the other reason I’m starting this thread is to hear from folks who’ve seen the show I saw a couple weeks ago.

So if you haven’t seen it, especially, but even if you have ... please don’t be a you know what and get the thread shut down. Your sick, demented sense of humor is completely welcome, but check your attitude at the door, pardner.

Polititcally correct BS only. : )

If you haven’t heard about the tour and you came of age in the mid 70’s, like I did, or you’re an avid Pink Floyd fan I can’t give this show a higher recommendation.

@jasonbourne71 Nice.

That was the 1st time I’d seen both SL and LC play live.
I’m looking forward to exploring more … esp since it seems they’ve both done a lot of really creative stuff and surrounded themselves with some really amazing musicians in various side acts.

Recently purchased the Claypool-Lennon Band's Monolith of Phobos CD. Real cool music here!

I got to see Les and his Frog Brigade perform 'Animals' in its entirety sometime last century; might have even been that show they released on CD.... This sounds like a great tour!
