Shipping hassles with FEDEX

I purchased a used pair of Proac 1.5 speakers back in late June. The right speaker arrived with a small ding on top, exposing the particle board below the veneer. After contacting the seller, who maintained total ignorance, a damage report was filed with RPS, aka Fedex Ground. At the end of August, following a phone call to the whereabouts of a home inspection, finally a pick-up was scheduled. They took the speaker, in it's original box, promising return in about 5-7 days. Two weeks tto the day I began the hellish dealings with Fedex. Not only could they not locate my speaker, noone in the supervisorial depts. would return calls. Two and half weeks lapsed and finally the truck pulled up and dropped the speaker at my door. The box which was in "good" shape when it went out was now wrapped in tape. Torn throughout. I was livid. I lifted the box into the house and felt the speaker bang against the sides. Immediately, after phoning Fedex, Apromise to have things rectified was made. They told me to go ahead and open the carton that I would be compensated. The condition of this speaker, at one time in beautiful yew finish, looked like something delivered by a band of gorillas. Each corner and edge is now chipped. A complete embarrassment to acknowledge the lack of care and integrity. As of today, nearly 3 1/2 months later, this issue is not resolved. Any simlilar experiences? Any effective results? Thanks siddh

Boy that sounds like a UPS story. I know that is not what you want to hear. They may be all the same ?? FedEx has a lower overall damage rate the UPS I know, but I only ever had a problem with UPS. It was a package that never arived at the destination. They paid the insurance claim pretty quickly. I guess totally lost is better than damaged, because there is nothing for them to examine.
I had similar problem with UPS-they denied my insurance claim due to "improper packaging" although I used the original mfrs boxes. After getting jacked around by the UPS machine which is designed to not pay claims I found an ally. The speakers were shipped from a UPS kiosk located inside an Office Depot store so I contacted the regional mgr for Office Depot and asked for assistance in collecting my claim. Within an hour of my conversation with OD my phone lit up with call from UPS headquarters in Atlanta with assurances that my problem would taken care of. The regional mgr of UPS called and apologized and my claim suddenly was approved. What a different attitude -was this the same UPS that had jacked me around or did I just lucky? The simple answer is that Office Depot understands the importance of good customer relations and they stepped in and applied the heat which is the only reason I was paid. My advice is to use a third party for shipping with any of the carriers as this may give you the muscle to get some satisfaction. Everyone should buy from Office Depot they are the best and they have something that UPS is lacking -Ethics.
I Fedex'd a two-day air, 60 pound power amp that arrived with two broken feet, the bottom panel loose after the screw heads were shown off from impact, and a dent on the bottom corner of the faceplate. And this baby was packed solid! It appears syrofoam has a limit of elasticity, haha. I promptly reported the damages to Fedex. After three weeks they paid the purchaser's $100 claim sight unseen and repaid me the hefty shipping fee in full. Bonus! Siddh I recommend you log the dates and events of your experience, then present Fedex with your story in writing. Include as many facts and estimates for repair as you can. Soft pedal their atrocious behaviour. Claims examiners are suckers for factual accounts but hate whiners, who unfortunately account for most claimants. Good luck!
Oops Siddh, here's an afterthought courtesy of my ex-wife. After presenting your case, instead of making demands, close by asking Fedex what they can do to help you. People like to think their jobs are meaningful, and this gives them a way to redeem that concept. Just an idea...hang in there!
