Seeking audition of Tekton Moab, Encore, or Ulfberht speakers in DFW Metroplex area
From the Tekton website in their FAQ Where can I audition the speakers? Our current business model is strictly direct-to-consumer. While we do attend some audio shows that can provide a chance to hear our speakers in person, we firmly believe that the best way to listen is in your own space. We offer a 60-day risk-free trial so you can return the speakers if you are dissatisfied for any reason.

@arafiq Most welcome. I have quicksilvers also, and the person who had them had very very nice tube amps, not too powerful. Still -- too in your face. I'd rather try Zu or Omega at this pricepoint. Or go higher, to Fyne, Tannoy, Devore, etc. @carlsbad2 I never heard them with SET amps, which I think would be a very important test. That said, I've heard other very sensitive speakers with SET amps, and some of them have very very nice parts in them (including higher quality drivers). The Tekton engineers may be onto something special with their design, but the folks I've talked to say the they'd be better with better parts. But that's not a debate I am really qualified to adjudicate. Let's just say that if I had the money, I'd probably go for higher end, higher sensitivity speakers than Tekton. |
@hilde45 Thanks! Your impressions are not that far off from mine. About 2-3 years ago, I went to audition the Double Impacts at a seller's house. They keyword was 'big'! Big sound, big size, big presence. The seller was running it with a Quicksilver tube integrated amp but I can't remember the exact model though. I also found it to be a bit 'too in your face.' In the end, my conclusion was that you get what you pay for. Their performance was within the respective price bracket ... giant killers they were not! Just to be clear, they were good speakers and I can see someone being very happy with them. Just not for me! |
Tektons pair best with tubes. I put mine up for sale because I just wasn't happy with the sound. I potential buyer asked if he could bring his amp over. I listened to 30 seconds of the first song and told him that I would honor my offer to sell to him but if he doesn't buy them they are not for sale. He didn't and I'm very happy with them now that they are SET powered. Indeed they are big, plain, boxy and probably ugly to many. I think a lot of people reject them when the see them and "confirm" when they listen to them. Jerry |
@arafiq For my tastes -- and for the tastes of a couple of other audio folks in Denver -- the Tektons were not keepers. Their sound was big, bright, forward and the speakers were over-larger and imposing for the spaces in which they were used. They were paired in once case with Atmasphere Class D monoblocks and and in another with tube amps. They were bested in one case by Dutch and Dutch 8c and in another case by Devore 0/96 speakers. My own speakers are Ascend Acoustics towers. |
