Scoutmaster vs. Basis 1400

My current analog rig consists of a Basis 1400 with Origin Live Silver tonearm. Cartridge is Ortofon Rondo Bronze.
I have a chance to get the VPI Scoutmaster with JMW 9 tonearm from a friend for very low price. I would put the Rondo Bronze on the Scoutmaster.
I was wondering if this move would significantly upgrade my analog rig or would it be just a lateral move with a different sound?
