Schiit Skoll phono stage

I am curious, not much talk about this new and interesting phono stage from Schiit audio. It is balanced and single ended and has a remote for loading of the input (resistance and capacitance) to input type (RCA or XLR), gain and filtering's What a neat idea! Might just be a fabulous phono stage! I only say fabulous because it uses J-fets (read that somewhere) and this company seems to get the sound very good when it wants to do so. Lets start a discussion, I may get one before the price goes up , I am currently using a Musical Surroundings Phenomena ll Plus but have to use toggle switches in the rear of unit to set loading for my cartridge. The sound is very good but it cost me. I have the matching power supply also.

Price/Features/Versatility, if I needed it, I would definitely try it, thanks for bringing it to my attention. If it sounds good, that’s a lot for the price.

Anything Phono: have full refund option, it’s ’preferred’ not ’better’, and everything phono sounds different in every different system.

It would be nice if it had a SUT option, letting you use an existing external MM RIAA Phono you may want to compare/prefer, like the vintage tube phono in my mx110z.

Instant remote comparisons from your listening position are awesome, it would be nice if it had remote balance to tweak errant tracks, or temporary or semi-permanent system balance issues prior to tracking them down. Once having remote balance, I will never live without it, I just bought a spare Chase RLC-1 as insurance.

IF you have a balance issue ONLY with phono, make sure it is not because of too much or too little anti-skate, that would be improper wear of both your stylus and grooves. You can see the physical results of proper anti-skate adjustment using the blank side of this disc

I love the idea that you can adjust settings by remote while listening...Schiit makes excellent value phono stages...

I am not saying the Skoll sounds better than my current phono stage by Musical Surroundings, but it might? I can not see that happening but I may have to try it out and listen for myself someday soon! I am currently using a low output Grado Statement series 1 moving iron cartridge that is so smooth and silky sounding right now. It is attached to my restored Dual 1249. Sounds great to me. Warm, and dynamic enough.  It blows my mind how fast Schiit comes out with new products. There higher end R2R DACs are very good. I have a Bitfrost and love it but wish I could afford to move up the chain. Getting into phono stages is something else, so I am excited about it. Thanks for the feedback guys! Have a happy new year. Play a record that you love!
