There are 2 tape records and 2 tape play outputs. Guessing I rca out of the tape play output? Then it will be basically a straight through of whatever is playing through the unit?

Shouldn’t the tape play be an input?  You want the Record output to access the phono and of course have the input selector on phono.  
Thats a really superb sounding integrated.  If is meeting spec, you’ll be hard pressed to find better.
