SACD PLAYERS

I NEED FEED BACK FROM THE GROUP ON SACD PLAYERS. WHICH MODELS SHOULD I CONSIDER FOR USE IN A TWO CHANNEL LESSING ROOM. I AM RUNNING A PAIR OF MARTIN LOGAN PRODIGY SPEAKERS WITH A MARK LEVINSON NO. 336 AMP AND A OLD AUDIO RESEARCH LS1 PREAMP. I AM THINKING OF UPGRADING MY CALIFORNIA AUDIO LABS ICON MKII CD PLAYER FOR A SACD PLAYER. NEED SOME SUGGESTIONS.

I have the Marantz SA-1 connected to a Proceed AVP and a ML NO. 334 using the Martin Logans. The player sounds fantastic playing both redbook and SACD's. I have them connected with a pair of Transparent Ultra balanced cables. I don't have any regrets about the SA-1 and would do it over again.
I have a Sony SCD-1 and a Resolution Audio 55, into a ML380S , ML335 with Dunlavy SCIV's and Stealth PGS interconnects and Harmonic Tech Magic One biwires. The Sony now produces sound of equal quality to the RA55 in Redbook.

Best wishes,

Bill E.
Depending on your budget the best SACD player below $10k is SCD-1 with audiocom-uk.com (In USA, Richard Kern, www.audiomod.com is their authorized installation agent), next is Marantz SA-1 and 3d, on my opinion, is Marantz Sa-14 stock or slightly modified by Richard Kern (capacitors upgrade only - I am not sure if this even void warranty). Sony 777es is simpler version of SCD-1. Finally, Sony 9000es where you can play DAD's but only modded (Kern, Stan Warren etc). There are plenty of choice for all budgets (for $300 you can have Sony 775!). You will be happy with whatever you will choose. Good luck. Simon
I just got off the phone with Ric from EVS. There are TONS of upgrade mods available for ALL of these units. We discussed their design and how the circuit is set-up to a pretty good extent. After talking to him, i would wait just a few more months before buying ANY type or brand of SACD players. There are going to be some MAJOR changes in the chipsets that will be used in the Sony's very shortly. These should be FAR better than the chips being used even in the far more costly SCD-777 and the SCD-1. I've already got my order into him for one of the models that will be due out in appr September. Of course, it will be fully modded : ) Sean

PS... LOSE THE CAPS LOCK BUTTON, WILL YA ????
Which model did you order, Sean ? I'm in the market for a SACD player as well.
Sean .... tell us more. If you've got any juicy pre-release information, please don't keep it a secret! What would be real nice, is a multichannel SACD player with the same build quality as the SCD-1 but digital SACD out ... is that what we can look forward to? --Lorne
Sorry for the secrecy folks, but I don't want to go into a lot of detail here for MANY reasons. Drop me an email if you are truly interested. To keep it brief, let's just say that Lorne's wishes aren't that far off. Only difference is that it will NOT have the build quality of the SCD-1 (or anywhere near the price) but should be capable of even better sonics. This is especially true when the unit is "properly" modded. Sean

hey sean, how can we get in touch with ric at evs? and what does evs stand for?

thanks for the help.
thanks sluggo. every time i call the vatican asking for the dealer they hang up. do they have a direct number or something or maybe they dont speak english?

wtf?
While i can understand Sluggo's take on the situation, look at it this way: If your "way of life" depended on modifying the latest products on the market, wouldn't you seek out a good source so as to stay on top of the situation in your particular field ??? Maybe even look for "inside information" to try and stay one step ahead of the competition ??? I'm sure that EVERYONE has "contacts" in different areas of expertise, so why should the audio field be any different ? It's not.

As to contacting Ric, he will post info on his website. He is extremely busy trying to keep up with his workload and is NOT timely in response to emails. Your best bet is to be patient and check his website occasionally. For the record, EVS stands for Electronic Visionary Systems and his website is www.tweakaudio.com Sean
