Rules for Trading & Best Trading Experience

Over the years, I have traded gear a few times and it's always worked out really well for both parties because I have a few trading rules that I use and wanted to share them here:

1.  Since this is a hobby for most of us, it supposed to be fun.  So either party can trade back, no questions asked, so long as the gear is in the same cosmetic and working condition that it was received in.  This way, no one is on the hook for a trade if they are not happy with it.

2.  You have to keep the gear for a minimum of 6 months before requesting to trade back.  It has been my belief that we all have an aural memory and many times our ears and brains remember the previous sound of gear, and sometimes a change, even if it's better, may not sound better initially.  But sometimes after a month or so, you really start to enjoy the new sound of the change you made in your system

3.  If you wish to sell the traded item, you must first offer it for sale to the person with whom you acquired it from in trade and give them the right of first refusal to buy it back from you.

*** By implementing the above rules, so far, no one has every wanted to trade back.

I've never really thought about rules per se but I've done some trades in the past. The only one I can remember at the moment was a speaker trade. I traded a pair of Alon Lotus SE's for a pair of JMlabs Micro-Utopias following a move to my current smaller quarters. It was a local deal so we were able to inspect each others speakers and that was that.

Your rules seem reasonable and make common sense if one is actively pursuing trades.
No one gets hurt with my trade rules and it keeps the hobby fun as it should be.

The amp for the speakers trade, we both had known each other for years although never met, kind of audio pen pals.  I shipped the amp to IN, he shipped the speakers to PA.

With the other speaker trade, we met in MD at a rest stop, had coffee and I'm not sure if we inspected the goods but sent pictures.

The tuner trade, we both sent pictures so knew what we were getting and also spoke on the phone as well....
