Rolling Stones Blue and Lonesome

Would give a listen given the chance but not excited about this.

i agree with hodu that they're loose and having fun--it's nice to see them get away from the rigid studiocraft that sucked the life out of most of their recent stuff. however, there's a vague sense of parody to the project--they maintain a certain distance from the material as opposed to really inhabiting it. by contrast, i've been listening to a keith-inspired playlist on spotify (old chuck berry, jimmy reed, robt. johnson, etc.) and its quite a difference--ain't nothin like the real thing.

I've listened to it but once (yesterday afternoon), and quite liked it from start to finish. I'll be playing it again today -- and likely many more times after that -- but my first impression was really positive. One thing that stood out: the boys really seem to be having some fun, which isn't something we've seen from the Stones on their recent albums.
And you wouldn't know that the guys are all, like, 1,000 years old.
