SOP. First swap a known good signal into the input. If its a phono stage input then its expecting a very low signal level, so be careful not to overdrive it. Use a source with variable output, turn it way down, connect it, then turn it up. Any sound at all coming from both speakers and you know the problem is upstream.
Then do the same with whatever is upstream- RCA from the turntable, or where it connects to the arm, or cartridge pins. You aren't specific at all but for this you need to be. So go try one after the other until you narrow down to the culprit. Works every time. SOP.
