Rockport Mira VS Rockport Atria II

I recently heard the Atria II up against Sonus Faber Serafino and Magico A3. I really liked the Atria II but I thought it needed a little more in the bottom end. Dealer had the Avior II and that did the trick ... problem was the cost to go to the bigger speaker, $11k for an extra 9" woofer?? Still trying to rationalize a pair of speakers for near $40k or sending one of my kids to college.

I am always looking at stuff here on audiogon and came upon a pair of Miras. Much less expensive than any of the new models I was looking at. Has anyone heard the Mira and Atria and can compare similarities and differences. The Mira speakers are all the way in Delaware and I am in California. Big savings if they share sonic characteristics. I was thinking that the Atria would be more detailed in the highs than the Mira due to the beryllium ... but maybe not. I thought the Atria even with slightly less weighty bass than I prefer was amazing. If I could get close to that with the Mira I could have less of a dent in my account.

I have a Plinius CD-LAD preamp with a pass x250 amp so I don't think I will have a problem driving either of the rockports.

We are a dealer for Rockport and Magico. Mira's are good but not even close to current offerings of Rockport. If you would like to discuss please call our store hi-endaudio dot com .
You may want to read through all the threads and posts about distributed bass array and Swarm subwoofer systems. If you do, then somewhere in there you will find Duke, aka Audiokinesis, relating the story of a customer who had some huge budget, something well over $10k if memory serves, for subs. Not for speakers, just for subs. Probably more like $20k. Whatever. Point is the man had more than enough money to be comparing and listening to some pretty expensive gear. He would gladly have spent the big bucks but none of that was anywhere near as good as the Swarm. So he went with the Audiokinesis Swarm.

This is why when people get into these expensive speaker systems it makes no sense to me to be comparing them at all on bass response. No speaker made however expensive is ever going to compete, until and unless they get around to making them with multiple woofers spaced out around the room.

A Swarm is around $3k, and that's just for reference. Any four reasonably good subs will do just fine. Get you all your bass, and more, and for a lot less.
Agree with @millercarbon that adding a couple good subs or Swarm if you can do it with the Atrias may be the best solution as you’ll get the detail and overall sound quality you’re looking for likely with even better bass than what the Aviors could provide.  And it will be around $8000 cheaper.  Best of luck.
