Revox A77 mk2

Have a problem with noisy capstan bearing in a Revox A77.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks atmasphere!

Good suggestion! I've thought of that also but didn't know what type/weight of lubricant to use! I assume one can pry out the covers and press lube into the bearing similar to repacking a wheel bearing on my old vintage Porsche!!

Have you searched @ tapeheads.net (regarding the correct grease)?

Not yet!

Right now I can't figure out how to get the endcaps off a 608zz bearing in order to re-lube it. Looks like they were never intended to be removed.  Maybe the capstan shaft needs to be re-lubed? I recall a warranty repair in 1971 in which Revox service in Nashville replaced a "noisy" original 608zz (SKF made in Italy). I'm wondering if shaft end-play or the sintered bearing in the housing is the problem!

The SKF and other quality bearings of that style and size are available on Amazon.

My service manual states "Mobil DTE extra heavy." This for sintered bearing, assume the ball bearing uses same, although states, "All bearings lubricated for life and normally require no service."
