Is the click coming from the speakers or the amp itself?

I've had a positive experience with this company: http://www.georgemeyer-av.com Friendly, and good customer service. My issue was covered under warranty, so I can't speak for their pricing. |
" The click is from amp and only noticeable when not playing music. I did some web research and most ppl say it is related to protection circuit been activated. They are old amps but I just love them." Before you send it out for repair, you may want to go over your system. Given the age of the component in question, I would check all the cables, including the power cord, for any type of corrosion at all the contact points, and for damage. |
Good advise MB. Just checked cables and cords and they all looked fine. I guess I will bring the to gm AV. Bought them in 85 and no issues until now. I have a newer type of receiver (the AV stuff) but it does not produce same quality of sound on the same set of speakers. The old mitsu are way clean and solid IMO. |
baca ... Call Tom at Northridge Electronics. He's one of the best. Reasonable prices and reasonable turn around time.

Called GMAV and NE. Both have $75 minimum charge. Talked to Tom of NE and he gave me a few simple steps to isolate the source of noise and I was able to determine it's power amp. Tom did say that he cannot resolve the problem if clicks are from the preamp because parts for a specific board are no longer available. At this point I feel Tom knows exactly what's going on so I will make an appointment with him next week. GMAV was very professional and courteous (I think it is a much larger business comparing to NE) but I could not talk to technicians. From the web site, they are very good in high end stuff. Seems like an overkill for my old Mitsus. Really appreciate you guys and will let you know how it goes. |
