have you researched after market cueing devices....there are a few.
Really want to salvage this deck, help needed!
I'm sure some of you are Technics turntable owners, but not sure if any of you own or are familiar with Technics SL 1400 MKII model, or if this is even the right website/forum to ask for help with my issue. I own the aforementioned turntable and it has the dreaded cuing problem where a plastic cam breaks and cuing mechanism stops working. All technics SL 1300, 1400, 1500 MKII models have non functioning cuing mechanisms because of this mal-engeneered part. So I picked apart my Technics SL 1400 MKII to see which plastic cam my turntable has for the cuing mechanism so I can order the 3D replacement part from Shapeway to finally fix the cuing issue. My hands are shaky and I don't want to use the deck without cuing. Took the cam out and turns out I have the variant with the bushing with knurling on the outside. Went over to Shapeways.com, added it to the cart and proceeded to check out only to find out that the site is down and has been down for several days now. Then I found out that Shapeway declared bankruptcy and so I'm screwed! I like this deck and it would be a shame to junk it. To make matters worse the old cam broke into two pieces when I was trying to tie it up with wire. I was hoping to salvage the old part as I've seen others do it, but alas. Anyone know how I can get hold of the guy that's selling this on Shapeway? I tried contacting him on shapeway but like I said, the site is down. If anyone has a solution do let me know please, I am desperate! Also, these two washers/shims fell out while I was working on the head shell assembly. I have no clue where they came out of and what's their purpose is. I didn't unscrew anything else other than to get to the plastic cam. Any ideas where these belong?
Weird, but this site won't allow me to attach any images to my post, keeps asking for image URL.
Thank you all.
you cannot post an image unless it is already online. next, you do not copy the image, you post the url (right click any image, select copy image address).
solution: make a virtual system here, name it pics to post. upload any photo you want, then you post while writing, using the top edit bar, 6th icon from the left, name pops up ’image’, it waits for you to post the image address. leave it in the virtual system you created for future reference or delete it. the 11th icon ’link’ is how you post any web address, and you can name it whatever you want while linking it good luck solving the lift/cue here comes a link and an image I already uploaded auto lift at end of play is good for manual turntables verify there is room to place the auto lift, I can only fit it on my 12.5" arm due to the wide platter rim of my vintage JVC TT81

https://drive.google.com/file/d/105OYvrK32AhAya8aLroz24tRxKXnPzKC/view?usp=share_linkThank you both for your help. I decided that I would salvage the old part, but it didn't work out. The old cam broke into two pieces when I was trying to epoxy it and tie it up with steel wire. You can see the photo here. I then contacted Kevin from KAB USA in hopes that he might have this part. Lucky me he does but it's split from the seam just like my old one before I snapped it in two. I ordered from Kevin today anyway and I'lll take my chances the second time. However, I'd really appreciate it if someone has the 3D file and can print it for me. I like this deck and it would be a shame to junk it. The second issue I have is that these two washers/shims fell out while I was working on the tonearm base assembly. I have no clue where they came out of and what's their purpose. I didn't unscrew anything else other than to get to the plastic cam. Looking at page 22 of the service manual I can't figure it out where these are from. Here are some photos. I was working on the assembly in the orientation you see in the photo, and while putting things back together, I noticed these two washers resting on the foam platform that the turntable was resting on while I worked. Any ideas where these belong? Here's a picture with arrows of the screws and a nut that I took out. The one with the red arrow has another matching screw on the same plate hidden, but which is on the second photo with the flathead screwdriver pointing to it. I did not completely take out the plate with the red arrow. I had enough space to work with the plastic cam and the cueing piston, and I was careful with the tonearm wires. Oh, and here's a top view of the tonearm assembly. If anyone has a solution do let me know please, I am desperate!Thank you all. |
Gosh why is it so hard to upload a picture here! Maybe I'm gettin' old. lol. Thanks Elliott, I created virtual system and uploaded some photos but for the life of me I don't see how I can share their link. Anyway, I figured I'll share photos from my Google Drive. Thanks for the link to the aftermarket lift mechanism. It'll work for the end of play, but not for beginning. I need a fully working cueing mechanism. Like I said, my hands are too shaky and I can't put the needle down/lift without cueing. https://drive.google.com/file/d/10MuDjNBc4C4YpZk313R9rByDYR75It99/view?usp=share_link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MuZvB9LF1FNZD7HuIm1CiFOs4KD1UJIS/view?usp=share_link https://drive.google.com/file/d/10m7wOE6enrvGSVPN0uOPfFF_2NO0L8b2/view?usp=share_link https://drive.google.com/file/d/10b_3ubNCWz4-XZ0GBjxLREkgYeEoBpbF/view?usp=share_link |
@audiofilliac Because hosting images costs money and it’s a free forum so they don’t do it.
