QYRE QB9 DSD no output

Hello! I'm in need of some desperate help. I hope I don't ramble on but im trying to provide the most information I have.

Setup: 2014 Mac mini running Monterey using ROON ...connected via USB to AYRE DSD.

Initial problem started a few months back. I started getting a static output through my speakers but eventually it would play fine. This took maybe 10min or so.

Eventually it stopped working all together. I run a tube pre amp and thought maybe I had a bad tube or something. Turned everything off...disconnected all cables and reconnected them, then turned everything back on. No Luck

The AYRE will display 44 when music is playing from ROON but no output.

Tried swapping USB cable from Mac to DAC. No Luck.

Swapped out preamps. No luck.

My turntable plays fine through both preamps.

Tried to play just from iTunes to take ROON out of the equation. No luck.

Tried connecting to my laptop to take the Mac mini  out of the equation. No luck.

Possible the output on the DAC is bad?

Thanks in advance.

@chazzy12 ,

When you contact Ayre you might also ask if the repairs would be included with the cost of upgrade.  This is very likely, as the upgrade includes a board replacement and they typically go through and check out the whole component with any service.  Good luck!

Thats great to hear! I was reading about the TWENTY recently. A lot of people seem to like the upgrade. Will definitely have to check it out. I started with the original QB9 and sold it for a QB9 that had already been sent in for the DSD upgrade way back when.

I have been wondering how Ayer has been doing since the death of its founder.  Glad to see people giving them kudos for Customer Service

I'm waiting for an upgrade of my QB-9 DSD to QB-9 Twenty.   Apparently Ayre needs to gather parts.

Ayre support is first rate.  When I switched from a Mac Mini to a Nucleus, Roon in the Nucleus would not enable my QX-5 Twenty because its firmware was not certified.  Ayre sent a flash drive with the updated firmware that brought it into certification.

You can expect good service from Ayre.  If you need to send the unit back for repair, consider upgrading to the TWENTY.  It's a major value.

Thank you. That was my next step. I kept thinking because I was getting something on the display maybe it was something other than the DAC. Good to hear at least im not losing my mind....completely anyway :)

This sounds like a broken Ayre QB9 DSD DAC.  Several years ago, I had a similar issue and returned it to Ayre for repairs. Please call Ayre on Monday.
