questions about Innuos Pulse Mini streamer usage

Hi,

I am thinking about buying Innuos Pulse Mini streamer

That will be my first digital streamer

Would you please answer:

1) When I receive digital stream over ethernet port does all available outputs are active - can I use simultaneously coax out, toslink out, usb out, all connected to various dacs

2) How can I tune In to a specific stream to listen to Internet radio station

3) Is there a noticeable Improve In sound If you upgrade stock power adapter with LPS. If yes, what are you using with good effect.

sasho

Hi Sasho,

I have the Zen Mini mkiii, not the Pulse but the premise should be the same:

You can use the outputs connected to various DACs, but the SENSE app has you select the output device/DAC you wish to stream to. So I don't think you can have streaming to multiple DACs simultaneously

You can search for various internet radio streams from within the SENSE app

My Zen Mini mkiii sounds significantly better with the Innuos LPS ( I believe the current Innuos LPS is also compatible with the Pulse Mini)

Hope this helps, good luck with your search 👍

Hi painter24,

thank you for reply

1) Looks like we can get only 1 output at the time

2) I do have Internet stream, Can I put It In sense app or web Interface without using Sense app searching function for radio stations

3) Would you please point out to mentioned Innuos LPS

The mini set up is about as Luddite as one can get. Just plug in the unit download the sense app follow the most basic of prompts and you’ll have music playing in about five minutes. Once you have the sense app up and running, it will be easier for you to find Internet Radio than it is for me to try to explain it to you on here. Enjoy your new toy. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. It was for me so much so I now have the Pulse.

The Pulse Mini I don’t believe has an LPS so should benefit significantly from an upgrade there.  No need to buy the outrageously expensive $1100 Innuos LPS — I’d look at Teddy Pardo, SBooster, or LHY as all of these get stellar reviews from owners and will be closer to $400.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for replies

It Is somehow unclear what are Pulse mini optimal power supply requirements - on the Innuos official website for Pulse Mini power specifications Is typed 12V / 5A, but Innuos offer zen mini mk 3 LPS at 16 V / 3A

@mgw that does not make sense. The unit requires a DC power input. It would not matter whether it comes from a switching power supply or linear power supply as long as it stays within the spec.

@peter_s @sasho pointed out, it is not the same spec as the Zem Mini added to which there is no mention of the LPS on the Innuos page for the Pulse Mini whereas it is a specific option on the Zen Mini page.

If it were me interested in the Pulse Mini I'd ask a dealer.

Just had a quick look on the Innuos forum, read into this what you will:

Post in thread 'Power Supply' https://community.innuos.com/threads/power-supply.255/post-1591 see

This was on the INNOUS website for the Zen mini MKII. LPSU

LPSU features:

• Nichicon MUSE Capacitors
• Medical-grade Mains Filtering
• Chassis design to perfectly match the ZENmini Mk3
• Also compatible with ZENmini MkII and PULSEmini

In my opinion, unless you are an electrical engineer or you know someone who is using a S booster or Teddy Pardo LPSU can get you in trouble if you don’t match the specs up correctly. I was told in an email from INNOUS that if they found that an aftermarket LPS you caused any issues they would not honor any warranty. obviously this would not be a problem if you matched correctly.

Hi, I have the Mini and stream Tidal, Qbuzz, and internet radio. You can search radio by genre or station name in the Sence app. I listen to Radio Paradise and .1FM as I find the sound quality very good. I have a TeraDak Chinese made LPS that cost about $200. While not the quality of the Teddy Pardo or others, it still produced a nice increase in sound quality. I put the money saved towards a Wireworld Starlight Platinum usb cable. I bought all of the above used and have a total of $1100 in the three items. Unfortunately I am cost restricted and after having the Mini, I definitely want the Pulse. I’ve used the included DAC but find my Schiit Yiggy and even my old Bifrost a significant improvement too. Regards, Mike B.

@buellrider97

If I am not wrong, you are using Pulse Mini as a combo streamer / dac

If you try to use external dac you will get better quality

Yes , I’m using the Pulse Mini as an external streamer. I have 2 DAC’s and they both better the internal DAC in the Pulse Mini. To answer your question about the internet channels, the Planet Rock channel I found was in Germany. I searched “ Planet Rock “ and had 7-8 hits, but none from UK. There are hundreds of channels and some are quit good in terms of content and a few have very good sound quality. You might email Innuos support regarding that exact channel. I’ve used their support and they’re outstanding. So overall I’d say the unit is worth buying. An LPS is a noticeable improvement, and for a modest system the DAC is adequate. The Sense app works great, and it’s a good platform to build upon. I’d recommend it over the Bluesound Node and the Project Streambox Ultra II. Regards, Mike B.

Mike,

thank you very much for support

When you say you searched for specified Internet station - you are doing this using Sense app, Is that correct?

I am Interested If there Is an option where we can put manually already valid stream without using results of search from Sense which can be limited.

For example google some stream which Is working OK and then type down to a Sense app and listen to

Merry Christmas to all

@sasho just checked the Sense app (I don't stream radio very often at all apart from Radio Paradise, so needed to chk), there is a field in the "Radio" section of the app where you can type or Copy and Paste a URL/web address of a streaming radio station and access this way

Apologies if this isn't what you meant 😊

@painter24 thank you

that Is what I wanted to know

It Is Important that user have freedom to Input own streams and Is not limited to offering of some kind of platform

cheers
